180sx/CRX - Click HERE for Original Thread

Austindsm
I will be looking at buying a 180sx with a SR20 swap and maybe a silvia front end conversion about mid-summer. I am looking for one with rims, suspension, exhaust, FMIC and other mods

I was wondering what is an adverage price for one with shipping and taxes is shipped to edmonton
(I am thinking between ($7000-$10000?)

EDIT
I changed my mind about a JDM CRX

I am more interested in a Pulsar for winter but they seem a little pricy. (Do they sell for $8000ish?)

I was wondering if my prices are close, and if there is anything commen problems with these cars.

Thanks

Genuine SR20 180SXs can be imported for $7000, some can be more expensive, so $7000 might not be able to afford the majority. Most will be less than $8000 fully-imported.

Pulsar's are in the same range, $7000-8000 will pay for the majority.

I consider the 180SX/Silvia as reliable and well built. Pulsar's are well built too, but after reading on GTiR forums, they can be high maintenance and prone to problems (although I haven't experienced any serious reliability issues with the 5-6 Pulsar's I've handled over the past few months).

get a 180sx/silvia ....best for the money and easy to gets parts for and work on yourself if needed ....

youngbex
an sr20 makes it that much better;)

rd_man
wait a year and get an evoI for the daily driver

Austindsm
So $8000 should be close to enough for a 180sx with an SR20 with rims , suspension and maybe a nice bodykit?

And how long does it take to import a car in the summer?
(Roughly 2 months)??

twinturbo
Your $8,000 is probably gonna get you something that needs a little work, and less than perfect body/paint. Ussually they have minor dents and scratches, not to big a deal. But they often have paint fade, maybe some rust bubbles, cracks in body kits ect... stuff that requires alot of time or money to properly fix, and repaint. From 2 steps back and in a photo they will look great, but up close you will find a couple dozen imperfections the first time you polish it up by hand! I makes sense though.... it's a 15 year old car that's been driven on or off the track and seen years of sun/rain/shopping carts/ect....not trying to scare you or anything, I just see alot of guys thinking they are getting what they see in the pictures, but the pictures don't show half of whats really there! And it's not like when it gets here and you have payed 8grand you can just say "nah....I think i will get a different one, I thought it would look nicer".

I have an imported Silvia and will probably import another car one day, I do recomend it. Just make sure you know what you are getting!

Austindsm
i will have more than $8000 to spend, but i am looking to spend around $9000.

Yes $8000 should afford the kind of 180SX you're describing.

Summer months are usually pretty well flowing, 6-8 weeks would be typical, however as always it could take longer.

Austindsm
Alright and i will give Import Concern a call as soon as i have money.

Thanks

Can a 180SX be designed for grip(with proper suspension upgrades).. i mean i don't see many 180's run on tsukuba or anything.

StraightSix
Sure it can be. There's lots of guys in the US that run S13s in road race series. You just don't hear about them much because they don't hang out on the typical import forums.

TyPhOOnSliPPerY
agreed .....

In the March issue of Import Tuner there was a special article on a Time Attack S15, and it was only a fraction slower than a GTR it was up against, so yes its very doable.

I heard that back in the early 90's the S13's were considered to be some of the best handling RWD cars available for anywhere close to there price range. They have excelent wieght distribution and fully independent suspension, I think that most people set up there S13's for drifting which reduces it's rear wheel traction, so If you want to fly through corners with your nose facing the same direction as your front wheels.......I think it's a very good chassis to accomplish this!

Excellent.. i'm looking into something that handles very well.. and boosts.. i want a type r but they got stolen too often.

actually s13's are known to understeer, s14's are more balanced and neutral, hence why they are widely considered easy as poo to drift as well as grip, a grip set up is not much different than a drift set up, just more tire in on the rears, bit less camber and your ballin', in fact traction is an extremely important part of drifitng just knowing how to use it is the thign, but s13's are great as well i love them, especially onevia's

$7000-8500 for most, fully imported and released in Vancouver.
