Typically, any shop that's willing to come to your house to give you a quote isn't worth your time.

The insurance company obviously has their reasons as to why they pay what they pay. As well, they will have a list of recommended shops you can go to, that will abide by their fixed rates.

If you've already been given an appraisal then why not take the sheet with you (Since I assume it's the standard Mitchell printout), which lists in detail everything that needs to be done, along with detailed pictures and drive around to a couple shops.

With that in hand, they'll be able to tell you what they can do for price. They'll just have to plug their numbers in it, and you'll know right away. It'll obviously be rough, but it'll be just as rough as the original appraisal from the insurance company.

do more research on the ins. laws. they cannot tell you who you can get to fix your car only sugest who they like... esp if its not your fault. there just trying to save themselfs some money. no reputable body shop will work for 45.00 per hour. do some homework or you will loose out on whats owed to you.

ditto what he said...

They can not tell you where to go, however if they have a rate established for what they are willing to pay and can back it up with a reasonable explanation/proof, then they are within their means to say:
"Fine, take it to Modern. We're paying $900. You pay the other $300."

i think this sums it up... they cannot demand that you use the shitiest shop in the city and that you will be happy. they are requiered to repair the damage to industry standard. if macco is 49.00 the only shops cheaper would then likly be backyard hack shops. go to a couple large reputable shops and ask there opinion on what your being told.

the couple times ive had to deal with ins companys they tend to give you there recomended shops and then if you chose another they will accept it. i have had the last two vehicles in this situation done at broadmore collision in sherwood park and have been VERY happy with there work and there sevice.

shawley
well i called 10 other shops out of the phone books,

they all adverage $55/hr plus materials that range from $10 to $40/hr

and 4 of the shops won't touch the vehicle cus it's a "skyline and too old"

one shop came to my house and did a apprizal aswell

i'l post up more later

*appraisal

not sure if its been touched on...but usually when a bigger company (lets say your insurance in this case) deals with other companies (whatever autobody) they make deals and will do work for less than what they do for the average joe who walks in the front door. see the list of companies your insurance deals with and go from there

if you can deal with modern autobody do it! my friends grandparents own the place and shes mashed her car up a few times and it comes out spotless each and every time hah

You have it right - the insurance company doesn't care WHERE you get it repaired, all they care about is HOW MUCH it costs to get it repaired.

But you better do more research - and contact the insurance company you're dealing with in regards to this. There is no sort of 3 quote rule. Or else everyone would just pick the 3 highest places they could find in the city, and the insurance company would be up shit creek.

You're more than welcome to demonstrate to the adjustor (He's the one you should deal with in this case) that his rates aren't in line, however keep in mind they have these rates for a reason, because that's what they've always been able to use.

What will happen is that if you and the insurance company can't settle this is that you can ask for arbitration. At which point a third party will hear both your sides and rule one way or another. They won't advertise this option, but it's available for most insurance companies.

However, any large insurance company uses a standard set of rates that they are more than able to justify. Remember, they are responsible to bring your car back to the condition it was in before the accident, not to bring it back to better condition.

What are the preferred shops the appraiser is trying to send you to whereby he will approve the repairs?

shawley
the appraizer said the shop i take it to has to be $47/hr or cheaper including materials

well fuck him cus i called 10 shops and not one had lower than $55/hr

all quotes i've gotten from over the phones will be over $7000 that that means write off,

and to make it the same as before they will have to blend the paint, by painting the doors(says many body shops i've talked to)

and thats useing old parts off dammaged cars SCI motors has brought in,

thats not acceptable by anyone,

i'm taking only parts from japan adn telling them only a shop i approve or a shop that has worked on 10+ skylines cus no one knows how they are supposed to be

i'm in the works for getting a quote to ahve it shipped to japan to be repaired and then sent back, and just get a quote on the to give to them aswell. just to show them what it could cost

Again - did he give you a list of preferred shops that their company covers automatically?

These shops are usually reputable, because if the work isn't done right it gets done until it is.

You aren't driving a brand new G35 here. They are responsible for bringing it back to it's pre-accident condition, not brand new fenders, bumpers, etc....

You can tell them what you want, but if they want to (And it's their choice, they can give in or not) to stick to their guns, you won't be covered for importing parts from Japan to fix a 15 year old car.

Playing hardball might very well work - it might not.

And you think that means anything to them? If you aren't reasonable to them, they won't be reasonable to you.

Put yourself in their shoes for a minute. You have a guy, with a 15 year old car who's demanding it get fixed with all new parts at whatever shop he wants it to. The car itself isn't worth much, and isn't anything special. Do you give in, and potentially pays thousands extra or do you apply the same policy to him that you would apply to anyone else?

acctually u do 3 estimates and u entitled to get it fixed in a shop of your choise, from the 3. generally an adjuster would trry to low ballyou , or suggest the cheapest shop. They won't ship it to japan i will tell you that much. And if estimated repairs exeed 50-75% of veh value in todays market, or repair isn't guaranted it will be written off, and given a check for acctual cash value of the veh (what a skyline cost same age and miledge , condition -depresiasion, (wear and tare etc)). Thats the most general way a claim gets handled. I got rearended adjuster sad you have 150 $ to fix it hahah i got 3 estimates from 850-1200$ went with 970$ place , and they gave me 970$ check issued to the repair shop. You have to be reasonable can't be I want the best of the best.

Think_Fast
k... try Sumarus autobody... i know dan a guy who does work for them and he knows what he is doing.

he might be out at this meet with his bike if its nice enough u can talk 2 him

Why not just write the car off?
