As you read this, my beloved TC is on the rails, heading east for Nova Scotia.
Thursday morning, we finished loading the contents of our house onto a 53' CN Rail Container, and in the afternoon the Supertruck and TurboCoupe got loaded into the container as well. It was a VERY tight squeeze, but we managed to give both vehicles about two or three feet on either end, just in case.
Anyway, I've got my fingers crossed for a good five days, waiting to see if everthing arrives on the other side with little to no damages.
I'm just glad I don't have to unload any of it. That's up to the wife and whoever she can scrounge together to do the work.
Friday evening, Ange and Coira left on a plane for Halifax, with my dog, even. I miss them like crazy already. It's like I have no purpose anymore. No one to go home to. No cuddles, no little voice bellering 'Dada', and worst of all, no supper waiting. ;) I do get to spend the rest of the month playing bachelor, though. I have a feeling that will get old pretty quick, though.
Saying goodbye to the wife and daughter was tough. Seeing all of our belongings in a container bound for God's country was a blessing. But seeing someone else moving into my house while we drove by on the way to pick up Buffy from the neighbours was the hardest thing to see. |

It all fit? Dammit, I was hoping somebody was going to call me up and ask if I wanted a nice blue pickup for CHEEEEP! :p
Don't worry buddy, it sucks, but its not that bad. Just remember you'll be home soon too and one month's worth of extreme long distance charges really doesn't matter in the long run. |

I know. And it's not Christmas or Pogey season.
The truth is, with everybody able to work leaving the Maritimes and people retiring every day, there's a job vaccum. It doesn't hurt that the oil and gas industry is finally taking off there either. A half a dozen jobs show up for Nova Scotia every few days. That's amazing, compared to five years ago.
It used to be 50 people trying to get one job. Now it's 50 people looking at 100 Western jobs, and completely missing the three jobs in their own town.
The compromise is making less money, but getting to live a life where you can actually relax. |

Alittle off topic but how do you pronounce your daughters name again? I was telling my mom about it the other day but couldn't remeber the correct pronounciation. Thanks,

Yup. We sold the house in January, moved out on Thursday, and I'll be driving home at the end of the month. For good. This is my second time living in Alberta, and it will be the last. I'll continue to terrorize the boards, though. ;)
Coira is pronounced KOY-rah. :) Scots Gaelic.
Snugs, you know it. My dream, at any rate. |

I might be a little bias because I am from the Maritimes and grew up there my whole life mostly, but I would NEVER go back there.
I lived in Saint John, New Brunswick and the weather sucks. It is always foggy, tons of rain and cold. I dont miss that at all.
As for the economy, ALL of the Martitimes are struggling big time, and its not improving anytime soon. Its getting worse every year. Even with degree's and a high level of education its hard to find any jobs. Many of my friends have degree's and $40k in student loans and they are all working at call centers making $10/hr. Its sad really, but thats why so many do move away.
Anyways, I dont want to sound negative, I hope you do well.

Tell your friends to look harder. Things are on the upturn. Maybe not in New Brunswick, which seems to have been hit hardest by the recession, but the Maritimes are getting better. I'll admit most of the jobs opening up are in a technical field, and they want experienced workers, but there are jobs. Get my wife on the job, and I bet she could find you a few as well. We've been looking on all the job banks for years, and in the last six months, things have really taken off.
Also, I love that weather you complain about. One of the single worst things about Alberta is the lack of moisture and dirt from that lack of rain. (the other is the ridiculous winters) I can't wait to not have to moisturize every day, not worry about nosebleeds anymore, and hang at the beach whenever I feel like a 20min drive. |

I really hope it does improve down there economy wise. New Bruswick is in a very bad position right now.
As for the weather, I am just sick of the rain and fog. Countless times I have spent washing the car and spending hours detailing it just to have it rain or get super foggy and ruin the clean car. I hate how even in the middle of the summer you need jeans and a sweater at night, always cold.
But Im still relativily new to Alberta, so that may be the reason why I like it so much. For me, Im a single guy and there is so much more opportunity here for me.
Anyways, I wish you well and hope you and your family do good down there.

We never met, put your posts were always entertaining and well thought out. You seem like an opinionated bastard, but it's a refreshing change from what's out there.

All my shit arrived in Nova Scotia unharmed. No dents, no broken plastic or glass (that wasn't already broken). It only took them 1 1/2 hrs to unload everything. Anyway, since I didn't have time to buy straps to tie the car and truck down, this is a huge relief. I can uncross my fingers now.

So I take it there wasn't any beer involved in the unloading process. :D |

I can't make any guarantees. :D Before and after, though, it's pretty much a given. |
