anyone run one, if so what kind?
theres a B&M on back order that im anticipating should fit soon as it gets here. I picked up an oil filter relocator kit as well so id like some input on how it should be setup properly.
Im thinking block to filter (on firewall?) then to the cooler (in front of rad?) then back to the block.
thanks

Flex-a-lite makes some kits, what they do is put a spacer between your oil filter and block, then it runs from that spacer to infront of the rad to a mini rad for the oil.
They also make duel core coolers, so you can have you oil in the bigger one and fuel in the second one, or PS for you autoX/rally people |

| I also got a filter relocation kit and am curious as to where it should go to. I want to mount it higher than stock location but if you think of it, that means the oil has to travel up hill to get filtered, so will it take longer to get oil pressure? I never paid attention as to where others mounted theirs so ya any thoughts? Does height matter? |

Just curious what you guys are using these for? I know what they do, and understand how they work, Im just wonder why you guys got yours?
Usually oil coolers are not necessary unless the car is heavily modified.

Also depends on the use, my car could use one, I have a tranny oil cooler.
My Old truck had an oil cooler.
Filter re-location kits I'm not that big on them, but the do have uses, such as a better spot to mount the filter and or you could use a much bigger filter. |

Have you ever had an engine fire? Snapped any axels? Broken a motor mount?
I spent a year finding parts, a winter getting everything built and a summer of nothing but headaches. I want to ensure I do everything I can to keep it safe. Theres alot of stress on all those moving parts, especially high up in the rpms so I think if you drive your car hard an oil cooler is a necessity. |

| Remeber with oil coolers the problem is not if it will cool the oil enough but how to keep the oil warm and not under optimun temps. Thats where you get a thermostat hooked up with ur kit. I will have an oil cooler this summer(corolla gts one), only b/c my car is pretty much a race car....it will also have an oil thermostat so the oil stays warm enough when driving hard.:) |

you asked why i was using one, i was giving examples how id like to be a little more PROACTIVE this year, but im sure you don't even know what that means :asshole:
anyways, thanks to the rest of you guys with some constructive feedback  |

| Seriously man if ur not tracking the car HARD, that oil cooler will hurt u more than help...higher temps are better than cold ones.:) |

I've had 2 vehicles that would cook oil on what was for me normal street driving in about 1500-2000km. My truck I ran w50 for summer cause I had to.
An oil cooler woulda helped those two, well in the summer, inthe winter they where pretty good. |

Well ifg ur vehicle is heating up that much an oil cooler would just b a band aid. Whatever I'm just trying to make u think about it b4 u go slapping on useless parts. |

I never put on an oil cooler, and these 2 vehicle never went above normal operating temp.....They where just very hot running engines. |

Wow, chill out before you shit your pants. I was trying to be constructive. I was just curious as to why you think you need this. Engine fires, snapped axles and broken motor mounts have nothing to do with oil temps.
If you are not educated enough to give me an explaination as to why you are getting an oil cooler, then please don't answer my question at all.
I fail to see why I am an asshole for asking a simple question.
And like dc2696 said, unless you are running your car really hard, you do not need a oil cooler.

thanks dc2696
"hurt more than it could help" Interesting point if it proves to be true. I like driving the car hard and was told that since i had my block bored out to from a 1.8-2.0L that I would be running alot hotter temperature. I guess we'll find out once the carbs are setup properly and I finally get around to hooking up all my gauges.
ek9hatch-nothing personal man just that the majority of posts on here are just to pick people's post apart like they having something to prove.
why do i want one? Once again, I want to be safe this year and try to prevent any more fuckups. Last year I couldn't get the carbs tuned & in sync. so I couldn't rev past 5000, the cam is good for 8+. Providing everything goes well this spring I fully intend on hammering on it at the track so theres gonna be a lot more heat/stress on the bottom end. I beefed it up somewhat but couldn't wait the 2 month backlog for the pistons i wanted so the ones i ended up getting might be the weak link... |
