Hawk pads - Click HERE for Original Thread

Murph
Just put my Hawk HP+ pads in.

Just wanted to let everyone know, if your not happy with your brakes, but dont want to spend thousands of dollers on an upgrade, try these pads. I love them.

LeadSled
Are they noisy?

I had the Hawk Superduty pads for a while but the squeaking at low speeds drove me insane... I switched to the HPS ones when I swapped to Powerslot rotors and they seeemed no different other than that they didn't squeak :dunno:

JdmCrx
I hear they don't do much.

Murph
Hawk HPS - good grip no noise and no dust

Hawk HP+ - tear your face off - noisey at all speeds, and tons of dust... but they do tear your face off.

For me with my Cobra brakes (2piston PBR caliper 13inch Brembo rotors) i can lock the tires at 80kms (245/45/17 tire )

I have driven a mustang just like mine with just the HPS, i did notice a difference. But when you install a set of these pads you must Bed them in properly or they dont work as good.

Good info.. but i'm pretty sure it's impossible to have no dust from brake pads. Low dust yes.

SilverNeonRacer
I had hawks before on my Neon, just up front. Dunno what level..

Oh yeah stopping was awesome, in a front disc rear drum, with hawks up front stocks in the rear, stopped much much better than my R/T with stock discs all around.

But yeah they where noisy like you wouldn't believe, and wow dusty, my stock silver rims(polished alum or whatever, not chrome) where black almost every second day. I went back to where I bought them to see if anything could be done about the noise, heh during his test flight, they didn't make a peep.

92_WhItE_H23
i have axxis pads on my lude and wholy fuck are they ugly noisy at low speeds...squeek like a bitch..its rather embarrasing actually.

Murph
the noise doesnt bother i have come to like it actually. Makes me smile when i see little kids rolling around on the ground in pain from thier ears bleeding

LeadSled
Lol, not me... that sound makes me think someone's wore their pads down to the bare steel :(

ehrgeiz
The biggest benefit of the HP+ is the resistance to fade not the agressive bite. If you're not tracking your car there's no real good reason to buy the HP+.

Brake dust has a simple solution, paint all your rims flat black. You really do get used to the squeel, I hated it at frist, but now I don't even notice it anymore.

Wolfdio
Is there a shop that installs them? or a place that at least sells them and is there some way I can compress the piston?

SilverNeonRacer
I got my hawks from Apex Modified.

I pop the cap on the brake fluid resevour, then either push the pistoing back by hand or use a c-clamp or something. You can buy a "special" tool for it.

That tool saves lots of time.

Really? I wouldn't know... normally I have no problems.. I think I've only had to use a C clamp once, the rest of the time, just pushing it back by hand works.

Yea just wait til your caliper seizes.. then good fucking luck.

c clamp?? tool??... i use a screw driver... it really depends on how ghetto you are at heart...

these pads are huge i love them i don't have them on my car but i've driven "my car" with them.. it was a huge difference not as much fade from high speeds. alot more bite. i'll get them when i can spare the funds... i *need* stainless steel brake lines, mine are to spongy right now and the fade i'm getting from it is kiling me...

Shouldn't you then focus on replacing the caliper rather than compressing the piston?

Oh, btdt... used a C-clamp, worked good, the other time new calipers where only $40/side so I just bought new ones.

Honda/Acura calipers can go for around 150-250 so.. yea.. i don't want to replace them. C-clamps work.. but i mean.. i paid $6 for a tool that is much easier to use and works good.

Murph
man i wish my calipers where that cheap... roughly 250-300 bucks each.... oddly enough if you get the same caliper as mine but has corvette written on it, it cost more.

Hawk HPS pads are the way to go. Oh, yes, no noise, but there is more brake dust than OEM pads, dont let it confuse you. But definatly a good investment
