What's the best way to baseline? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm looking to doing some mods to my car, what is the best way to get a baseline performance?
- Gtech
- home dyno software
- Budpark
- Dyno

Budpark.
But if you got the money, get a couple runs in on a dyno and compare it after you've done your mods.

I like the G-tech. its a great way to measure 1/4 mile, 0-60, HP, etc. In the end its alot cheaper then dynoing your car every time you do a mod. I admit its not as accurate as a dyno machine but its not that far off. And if you think thats BS then you obviously never used one or you don;t know HOW to use it.

Dyno is really good, but it is near impossible to find a dyno in the city, and even worse to find it somewhat cheap.
P.S: Welcome to AN Jack.

[/b][/quote]
the g-tech measures 1/4 mile trap speeds a little differently than a real track because the g-tech measures acceleration and averages that over the entire 1/4 mile pass. at all NHRA approved tracks, including Budpark, the trap speed beam is 66 feet before the finish line. so you cant really compare the g-tech results with real track results. the g-tech will show higher mph than the track would for identical 1/4 runs. that means you can't compare g-tech results with magazine results since the mags dont use g-techs.
so if you baseline with a g-tech remember to check your results after mods with the g-tech. and if you baseline at the track (so that you can compare your results with magazines) then remember to check your results after mods at the track.

both systems have their ups and downs. yes the track is one most accurate system out if you're looking for the best results but I doubt most people have the money to use the track after every mod. Also the track is only a measurer of your 1/4 time/speed. The G-force gives you more options to play with. In the end....the G-force is still the cheapest and most convenient way to go. Its not the most accurate but its pretty #### good. I would go to the track and dyno my car after every mod if possible but thats a lil too much for me.

yup, i agree that the g-tech is convenient. just thought it was important for everyone to know how it worked compared to real track results and magazine specs... and that comparing g-tech data to track/magazine data can be misleading.

hey crystal...
about the dyno in the city... if you're lucky by the time you have your car ready JB's might have their chassis dyno. if you're going with a turbo be double sure to keep in mind that if it's not a load bearing dyno you'll want to have the car running rich on the dyno.
cya

Sam...
Thanks for the info, hopefully the dyno will be ready by that time. I really do not want to go to Van if I can help it.

CYA
there are a few chassis dynos in calgary. davenport is the most popular. but they do not have a wideband o2 sensor. the tuner must bring their own. but... sports car products has a wideband o2 as well as a new chassis dyno.
cya

dyno machines... isn't there one in derrek dodge? where else?
