Hey guys
My parents went out for the weekend, so I decided to take thier 98 maxima for a spin....
then the check engine light came on, and if they come home and its on, il be screwed..
is there any way to turn it off? or what do you think the problem with the engine is?
I was accelerating hard, so that might have something to do with it :dunno: |

were you in a Black Maxima??
At any point in the day.. did you hit the 16x for about 2 seconds.. or.. were you on sherwood park freeway or anything???
But.. anyway.. back on topic.. Disconnect the negitive battery terminal.. and it will turn the CEL off.. Just be sure to set up the Stereo the way they had it.. and anything digital.. Like Clocks and such...
And Don't abuse your privladges...
(If that was You I saw today... You're an idiot..)

If its a 98 it should be OBDII compliant & disconnecting the battery will not clear the code. You usually need to take it to a shop to clear the code.

| guys guys. if you really want to clear the codes, then do it right and check them and diagnse what is wrong. or if you dotn want to, just pull the EFI fuse (all modern cars have them) and it should clear the engine light code, OBDII compliance or not. |

| Disconnecting the battery for over 10 minutes on an OBDII vehicle will clear the code or it sure does for the vehicles ive worked on. Do that, but then tell your parents that the car doesnt seem to be running right or some stupid excuse like that. The first thing a shop will do will be plug it in and see what the computer says. Chances tell me you were not supposed to be using the car and you think you broke it |
