removing tough bolt from suspension on 2g talon( any ideas?) - Click HERE for Original Thread

boarderfatty
Ok heres the story I am installing coilovers on my 2G talon, I have got 3 already installed, but on the passenger front one i am having problems removing the shock. I have undone the bolt that clamps around the bottom of the strut and the one balljoint for mobility. Nut there is a big bolt on the bottom of the piece the strut sits in that connects it to the control arm.
I have got the nut off the one side but cannot get the bolt to move, i try and turn the bolt and it is very difficult, I have tried WD40 hammer etc.
on the other front one i was able to get it out with a few hits with the hammer, but this side wont budge. i have kept the top of the shock attached to the strut towwer and pressed down on the control arm to ry and squeeze it out but i am still a couple cm short.
I am guessing the bolt might be corroded in or bent, any sugestions on how to get it out or get hte shock out some other way??

thanks for the help

hmmm when I did my suspension on my miata I had it jacked up on jackstands and undid the half shafts(from the diff) and was able to move the lower control arm like nothing...then pulled the top out and lifted the shock/spring out. I was replacing the diff anyway so they had to be off, it might be more work but it should work for ya.

air hammer

Try using a small puller or air hammer you might have to cut it and drill it out which is a huge pain but I know those bolts well if siezed well not come out without a fight.

Gas axe :D

Usually if you can heat the bolt you can work it back & forth slowly until you get it off (don't get shock too warm)

Angle grinder.. Just take the head off and hammer the body through.. Then you need another one though haha:blue:

You can't just hammer it through because the bolt is siezed in the lower control arm bushing.
