Another Victory for GM Syncromesh - Click HERE for Original Thread

TrevorK
The other day I remember that CT carries Amsoil, Redline and Mobil 1 now. Great I thought - I need some tranny fluid, so what would be better?

I head over there, all they have is the stuff for auto's, which won't do. The staff are no help at all.

So, I buy the ONLY manual transmission fluid they have, their top of the line Motomaster Synthetic (At close to $10/bottle). I figure it must be alright stuff - and since I don't want to wait to go to the dealer, decide to grab it.

Install it - and right away I can tell that it's not right. The gears are notchy as hell.

Today I drained it out, and poured the Syncromesh mesh in, and it's now better than ever.

Another victory for the GM Syncromesh - can it every lose?

droppedatbirth
no....gm syncromesh can never lose and it can't ever be stopped!!! hehe

its called ac delco syncromesh now isn't it?

REDX2NV
Ya, fucking canadian tire parts employees are morons. They never have even heard of syncromesh before.

Napa carries it for all that are wondering, and dont want to pay dealership pricing :)

Good to know - as Napa is open better hours than the dealer and I get a discount there :)

How much does Napa sell it for?

~30oZ~
Thats the stuff Terry did a review on right?

shorti
and how does it compare to Royal Purple?

JoeBlow
Actually CT is where I always get my syncromesh since I am usually looking on weekends when most places are closed. You just need to know who to ask. Usually the part manager can get if for you they have some in their shop supplys i think they usually give it for around $10 or something. I have done it 3-4 times.

REFLUX
AC Delco Syncromesh = new name for GM Syncromesh.

300Z:
Yeah, same fluid I did a review on.

I went to the GM dealer on 34Ave (southgate pontiac GM?), bought 6 1L bottles at $6/bottle (big Asian guy gave me the deal, don't know why but he did).

What does Napa let it go for?

Oh & canadian tire is USELESS.
The store is useless, the staff are useless.
Can you tell I hate canadian tire?

GTS Jeff
What viscosity is GM Syncromesh?

If you have a car running a ton of power through an automatic transmission, John Deere hydraulic fluid works amazingly. Makes the clutches hold much better, shifts firmer, and you don't burn it up like normal tranny fluid.

Soulfly
I need some of that good stuff.. :p
So.. NAPA Carries it.. and so do Gm Dealers... hmm..

is it just me or did this make no sense?

Made sense to me.

I think it's the "clutches" that throws you off? Inside an auto transmission there is a valve body, which controls the bands and clutches, and by controlling the bands and clutches it controls the planetary gear set.

This whole setup is completely different than a manual tranny, which is why some people say the automatic transmission is the most complicated part of a car.

for all those who care about what fluid to use... it's for neons but same thing really, right???:dunno:

That one guy went from 118 MPH to 121 MPH in the 1/8 mile just by throwing John Deere fluid in his trans. There's another guy on there with a 3500 pound Buick Regal and he's running a narrow 6-clutch final drive and taking the car to 5.35's @ 136 MPH in the 1/8 mile running the John Deere hydraulic fluid in it. There's no way a narrow band glide would hold the ~1600 horsepower it takes to push a heavy car that fast just on normal ATF.

My uncle runs the JD hydro fluid in the trans of all his farm and work trucks and swears by it. I wasn't specifically talking about manual shifting an auto trans, but that's what you usually do in a high performance application.
