Amp To Car Deck :( - Click HERE for Original Thread

Answermid
hey guys i have a another question, so i got everything i want hooked up as in my subs and amp but one thing i have trouble with is i dont know how to connect the amp remote wire to the after market deck...any clue plz and thnx :(

newaccorddriver
theres usually a remote wire on the aftermarket deck you bought, unless its a really ghetto deck which even that should have one

Answermid
ya thats the problem i cant find it......

talonstylz
its usually bluewith a white stripe. If not you can always tap into the red wire, wich is your acc, so when the you deck is on, the amp will turn on.

Ravendarat
Its gonna be a blue wire with a white stripe, if thats not there then look for a blue wire. If thats not there then hook it up to the red wire, while keeping the red wire hooked up in the car, so that means your gonna have 3 wires joined. If you dont have a blue/white wire but you have a blue then hook it up and try the radio. If the amp turns on then put in a cd and recheck the amp and make sure it is still on. The reason you do this is that generally the blue wire is power antenna and only has power when the radio is on and not when the CD is playing, if this happens to you then go for the third option as I stated above and hook up to the red wire.

Answermid
o thats right but for the blue one its purple witha white stripe

Answermid
wow u guys are VERY VERY helpful(no sarcasm :p )

Ravendarat
what kinda deck is this? BE SPECIFIC

Well the kdc-xxx is what we need, the numbers play an important part in the model #

Ravendarat
Then there is no purple white wire for remote unless its changed color due to age or sun. Most kenwood decks have both the blue and the blue/white wire on them, in which case you want the blue/white. The only time you should see a purple/white wire on a deck is for a deck with nav that needs a back up gear connected. That wire is generally Identified as a purple/white wire.

Answermid
ya but thiers KDC-X589 and KDC-MP5028 and KDC-MP528

Ravendarat
Ya thats what it says on the manual cover, but if you look on the face plate itself it will only have one model number. Either way, like I said before, it has the wires I listed unless the harness is damaged

If its the first one then its an excelon edition witch means it has a blue/white wire or someone ripped it out.

Your right, i looked up all 3 of those decks, they all should have that wire unless its ripped out.

Ravendarat
All three of those decks contain both the blue/white and blue wires. blue/white is amp remote and blue is power antenna. As I said and was repeated above, they are there unless someone ripped them outta the harness

Answermid
k thnx for all your help guys ill go check right now :p

hey i found it lol its blue witha white stripe ok now for an even newbier question how the hell do i connect it (im only 15 give me a break)

Ravendarat
Have you already ran a remote wire to the back of the car for the amp? If you hae then what you are gonna do is solder the blue/white wire to the wire you ran to the amp. If you cant colder then use a connector of some kind like a butt connector or a hat.

you twist the ends of both the wires together and hope they dont come loose. and connect the other end to the remote plug in on the amp

Did you seriously just tell somebody to "Twist the wires and hope they dont come apart" for advice, or were you kidding. Please tell me you were kidding. You must have been kidding. Now I get it, you were kidding me. Thats hilarious, I knew you were kidding. Your such a kidder.

i did that until i ran to crappy tire and bought shrink tubes. id like to see those connections come apart now;)

Ravendarat
Twisting and taping wires is commonly refered to as HACK. If you are gonna twist SOLDER and then tape or heat shrink than thats a different story but just twist and Tape or twist and heat shrink is not the right way to do it

Answermid
umm wat wire do i run to the back

Ravendarat
there should have been an 18 Gauge wire included in your amp kit, its gonna be skinny. If you dont have one in the kit then just use any wire that is approx 18 gauge and use that to run the length from the deck to the amp.

sparkycivic
most of the car amp wiring kits have a third wire that runs with the RCA's, so you can use it to do the remote power-on. it might be hard to see till you peel it apart a little

Answermid
o so how would u go about connecting the gauge wire to the deck

Ravendarat
Are you serious dude? I just posted how to connect it a couple posts up. One more time, either solder the wires together or use a crimp connector of some kind.

Altezza
Hahahah your killing me man

Answermid

Answermid
ok so i was pretty happy with the bass ans then i rewired everything for more convience and the subs dont work anymore, but the amp light is on but no power to the subs.
Any ideas

newaccorddriver
you connected the wires leading to the subs wrong. or your RCAs arent connected

n0c7
Isnt the purple/white wire a speaker wire as well?

Ravendarat
Purple/white should never be a speaker wire. Depending on the deck I have seen this wire as a ebrake wire, a databus wire or a steering wheel control interface wire.
