timing belt - Click HERE for Original Thread

bearinalude
where's a good place for me to get my timing belt checked? possibly replacing it as well depending on the condition.

bearinalude
any suggestions at all?!?!

2ndgenlude
honda would be your best bet. basically if your car is on a 100000km interval change it. its not so much the belt, its the tensioner that fails.

i take my car to sandy lane auto on argyle. family connections haha.
honda would be your best bet though.

BananaBoy
I take My Lude to Wilson's AutoTech. Better price and service than the dealers.

2ndgenlude
ya. if you can find a honest shop that does good work its always better then heading to the dealer unless you NEED to go to the dealer for something.

bearinalude
hehe yeah i know that the dealer would be the best choice, but if i can get the work done at 75% of the price, why not right? as long as it's not shabby. banana boy, where is the shop located at? and how much did it cost u?

Copper
I get all my work done at TopTech auto (Honda acura specialists) There the only ones that touch my lude, I actually had my timing bel tdone there at 100000kms...there on th ewest end, off yellow head on 123rd street i think...

Ph#: 452-6477 ....i think

BananaBoy
Interesting, my edmonton office is near TopTech. I'll just might give them a try on my next service.

cant say why it wont. my grampas corolla went 300,000km without a problem and its still going strong, but like mike3 said, its not recommended unless you dont care about your car

you might be lucky and find a head in good shape at a junkyard. B20A5 engines are hard to come by there though, but are still plentiful compared in a sense that it doesnt take long for one to hit the yard again. hardly anybody takes the head on those cars anyways, its mostly distributors and such.

and why the fuck would you take a previous owners word without recipts? thats just asking for trouble.

your not the only one.. good thing my accord only cost me $700. the guy was right about the car being well maintained cause carfax showed that it got some serious work done to it before it got sold. and it was also pretty peppy cause it felt pretty torquey for its age and such, but it was still shit after all that work put into it

bearinalude
ok gonna get it changed tomorrow along with alternator and power steering belt :D

haha, your not alone. buying a used car is always a crap shoot. my old prelude was bought from a dealership, with safety inspection and all that, and within 2 days of owning it the alternator went, within 2 months the clutch was gone, waterpump was done, battery, etc.

bearinalude
do they usually change the water pump as well when doin a timing belt change?

2ndgenlude
yep

bearinalude
cam seals and oil pumpdrive were leaking too...grrr

Nis13
fuck. my timing belt is cracked all over.. bought another one for 58 bucks at napa.. haven't put it in yet.. probbaly get someone to do it.. err.. ther goes another 1-2 hun.

Nis13
within the past 2 weeks and the future two weeks i will of had the following replaced

timing belt
water pump
rear control arms
FR steering knuckle
inner tie rod
4 tires
and 2 front radius rods
and a 4 wheel alingment

this was taking the previous owners word..

The car was hit so badly the alingment was bent so many ays it straightend it self out..

bearinalude
hehe shiet when i looked at my old timing belt, there was no crack wat so ever, damn think i wasted my money, but the previous owner didn't do a change...so i was getting paranoid lol. better safe than sorry!

Nis13
oh and to add to my list.. valve cover gasket kit, drive belt and p/s a/c belt, slave cylinder.

How much did you guys pay for your timing belt/install?

bearinalude
i was quoted 390.
