I'm getting an 89 integra xsi soon and it's been running on
syntetic for the last year. The thing is because it's older, has
160 k and it's got vtec it seems like there's a fair amount of
oil leaking, not burning. Would it be better to switch back to
mineral oil and can I even do this? Thanks for any info and
suggestions. |

I would for sure. Synthetic oils are thinner and can cause oil leaks on older motors. Switching from synthetic to regular motor oil is not a problem at all and can possibly (depending on how bad) help stop oil leaks. I would also recommend trying some of the oil additives you can add to help stop leaks.
Good luck

| I like the lucas oil stablizer. I run 5w30 or 0w40 synthetic in my older V8, with a bit of the lucas oil, First oil change I ran 1L lucas oil to 3.5L oil, the new change it's .5L lucas oil to 4L oil, and it's good. |

Here is a test for you.
1 bottle of lucas + freezer (-4 celcius) = Frozen bottle for crap.
Honestly put it in your freezer and it turns into ice. If that is at approx -4 degrees think of it at minus 15. |

You don't run straight Lucas additive in the winter, obviously, it is much too heavy. I have seen it cut oil consumption when used properly as an "additive", which what it is designed for. For a high mileage, hard working engine, the Lucas can help.
Don't know if I would use it much, if it all, in a turbo motor. Gunking up the lines to the turbo with a thick additive would not be a good thing-if you start boosting before the oil is warmed up. |

I mixes ith the oil pretty quick and stops being a think gunky additiive, and becomes pretty homo genious with the oil.
Just saying it worked well in my Fifth.. Shoot I hit upwards of 9000km before I needed an oil change. |

Depending where it's leaking, I would fix the gaskets. I've always used my aunt's logic (she has a master's in petroleum engineering) for not buying oil additives. The oil you buy already comes with an additives package & adding other additives may interefere with the others. If you want particular qualities in your oil, buy oil with those qualities.

| I would suggest Mobil 1 15-50. It's the thickest synthetic I have been able to find, but it seems to be getting phased out. I'll have to start shopping for a new brand when I cant find it anymore |

| i just switched from a 5w-30 conventional oil to mobil 1 15w-50 and its helped alot in stopping the leaks, but it still burns abit of oil, but not as bad as the mineral oil! now if only i can find a really thick mineral oil that dosent cost 70$ to do a change with |

My old D50, I ran w50 in the summer.. hehe... wored good. I found some 0w40 synthetic... dunno how thick it is.
The w50 I was using was only about $0.20 more a liter than regualr oil, so cheaper than synthetic. |
