Nub Question: Want more pick up in the Civic, what should I do? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Crooklyn
Ok so here's what i know about cars, engin usually in front of vehicle. lol

just getting into cars (tuners) never done any type of work on a car other than changing tires. so i really don't know anything.

right now i have my wifes Civic coupe LX 2001 MT.
i'm starting out w/ interior mods and then moving onto exterior mods, keeping it w/ clean look.

i love the look of the 2001 civic coupe LX 01.
but the thing is gut less!
What can i do to increase some hp, other than swap or turbo?
and what can i expect to get?

also what is a HID?

(sorry for the supid questions)
(my wifes vehicle is our start since i'm not getting my skyline for another year, so i ned to start some where)

thanks for all your help!

Basic performance mods for any car are Intake, Header, and Exhaust.

Intake will let more air into the engine ($20-$200 for a new one)

Exhaust lets the air escape faster ($200-$600 for a new one)

Header can be $100-$300 for a good one.

If you want REAL performance, you need to swap or turbo. Turbo would be cheapest. Check out www.homemadeturbo.com for that.

Search Google and the forums, there is lots of information to be had.

Crooklyn
thanks for the links hehehe
i've google and searched but i don't understand half the tems

if i plan to go turbo is there any point of buying headers intake and exhaust now?

what could i expect for hp with headers intake and exhaust

not after crazy numbers just looking for a bit more go when high way drivng and passing

Honestly, if you do not want to do a swap or a turbo set up, buying performance parts like a header, intake and exhaust will get you minimal HP gains for the amount you are spending. With Intake, Header and Exhaust you can expect maybe 10 WHP...which seriously, is hardly even noticable.

I would either save your money to make your car look good (rims, maybe lower it, etc) than to make it go fast.

One thing with Hondas is that it cost A LOT of money to make them go fast.

Hopefully this helps you.

I/H/E on a small engine won't do a ton, but they are definetly the way to start. Plus, most intakes sound pretty nice. You could probably expect some mild gains with the full set-up, and some better oomph for passing, especially high in the revs.

If you really wanted to go fast, turbo it or look into a platform that is easier to make fast; Talons/Eclipses, Preludes, SRT-4s, WRXs, etc.

Crooklyn
all show no go

Jamie,
the all all show is my first project for sure
thanks

what about doing a Complete engine build:
P&P head, higher compression piston, crower cam
what would be the approx cost on that?
and ruff hp gains?

or is it better just to a swap with either a b16 or H22 engine
since the k20 is just way to expensive?

(thanks for not flaming me)

EK9Hatch
Since your car is a 2001, a B16 or H22 is pretty much out of the question. You would be better off looking into a K20 swap...and yes, they are still are expensive, but the price is coming down.

Your best option would be to turbo your current motor. Its the cheapest way to go fast in a Honda. ;)

Sell it, buy a faster car.

Trust me, trying to make a slow car fast is a losing proposition unless you like to tinker (I'm getting the feeling that's not you).

You would be MUCH happier with a sportier platform (you will get so many more intangibles like better brakes, handling, looks, 'sportiness') that will just kill to add to your Civic.

depends on the p&p, the cam, if you have a cam gear, what the pistons are...

but to answer your question a race built to the top motor (your current one) would run you 6 to 10 K and probably have 200ish hp

check out 7thgencivic.com everything to know for a civic 2001-2005 as for performance im sorry but those are the worst year of civic in my opinion, i got a 2002 si i stick to "fun of driving" you dont need 300hp + to have fun... a nice sound(intake, exhaust) and good suspension and sticky tire's is enough to enjoy your civic that much more while still having good milage!!!

Shady_Pro
how about just throughing on a wet 50 shot

Why does everyone say that when the question was Specific??

Question: "How can I make MY car Faster?"

Answer: "Turbo, Supercharger, Nitrous Oxyide, Naturally Asperated Tuning and Big $$", Not.. 'Buy a faster car' <-- Because that wasn't the question...

If you Still don't know what I'm getting at here.. what I'm saying is..

He woulda Asked: "What's a faster/better Car then my current Car?"
That's when you can give your educated guess...

Driven
turbo a b18a/b.

You'd be better off with a B18C or a B16A2.. something on the Newer Side.. Because it's a newer civic.. But I thought it was a little too much work to swap in the VTEC B's.. that's why most people eather Turbo, Supercharge, Or do the K20 Swap.

Trevor, get off the crack, his civic is a 01+.....B18 or B16 will not work. He would need a K-series.
