What *local* tire dealers sell FALKEN brand? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Inzane
Looking at some Falkens possibly for the next set of perf all-seasons for my daily driver.

I know Kal-Tire sells Falken for sure. Are there any others in town?

Thanks!

Billy
Autotoyz sells Falkens....

I got my Ziex 512's there.

SilverZ24
Tire Warehouse does. You might even be able to get a better than usual price at that car audio gone wild sale. :dunno:

Autotoyz.... Autotoyz....? Is that that ricer shop in West Ed?

Did you happen to do a price comparison at the time to see how they compared with Kal-Tire and tiretrends.com (for your size)?

Thanks.

vorpalz
I've bought my Falkens (Ziex 512's and the current GR Beta FK 451's) from Tire Warehouse Westend. 484-4700 Ask for Kurt.

Does Fastech South carry Falken?

Regards,

REDX2NV

Just got off the phone with Kurt.

Nope. hehe. If they did I probably wouldn't have made this post.

This time I'm letting brand determine where I shop... Rather than letting a shop determine what brand(s) I look at.

Anyway, looks like in order of least expensive to most expensive (so far):

- order from tiretrends.com + install & balance at Fastech
- Tire Warehouse (plus extras like 'filled with nitrogen"...
- Kal-Tire

Haven't checked with Autotoyz yet.

Thanks everyone so far!!

PS - Guys with ZE-512s (including VorpalZ)... what are/were your impressions of this tire. I'm about 80% decided that that's what I'm going to run next for "3 seasons" (spring/summer/fall) use on my Sentra (the crappy OEMs have about had it).

SilverNeonRacer
My Falkens from West side TireWarehouse Actually costed more than expected... seemed good at the per tire price... then I dunno... worked out to almost $400 for 2 tires.... That lasted 3 months

TrevorK
Transform Spoilers has offerred to bring in Falken's for me in the past, and I think they just did a big group purchase on them as well.

I was going to get the ZE-512's, since they're $109/tire at Tiretrends for the size I want.

Then I noticed at CT they have a nice set of Dunlop's on sale (I don't think their all seasons though) for $140, of which I get ~30% off of that price. In 2-3 weeks the BF Goodrich Traction T/A's will be on sale at CT, but I can't get a firm answer on the price.

What turned me off the Falkens is that they offer a 50K treadwear warranty. And users who have had them comment that the only downside is treadwear. Whereas the Dunlop's offer 80K and the Traction T/A's offer 100K treadwear warranty, which is an indication that they should last longer.

REFLUX
I have dealt with Transform Spoilers & TireTrends.com for both group buys.

I'd totally recommend both :)
(btw, Transform gave a better price than TireTrends.com in the GB, thought that might help your decision)

Interesting...

Can you be a little more specific on the model of dunlop you are referring to? I won't select a tire just on the basis of a treadwear rating.

What attracted me specifically to the ZE-512 is that it won a comparison against 10-15 other tires a couple years ago in the "Performance & Touring All-Season" category where it quite handidly beat all or most of its competitors in all manners of wet & dry tests (for braking, handling, etc.). The only other tire that I remember scoring as well or almost as well in that particular test group was one of the Bridgestones (the RE950 I think, but it was very bad in the snow/ice categories). I'm not going to deviate too far from the ZE-512 unless I find another tire in a similar class that has some kind of performance data to back it up.

Dunlop SP Sport A2

My main reason for choosing them is based on lifespan - because they will only be driven in the summer I'm not too concerned about how they handle snow, which I'm assuming is a consideration of yours?

Oh - and these tires are also on sale next week as well.

That's the Consumer Reports test right?

I read about that one, which is what initially prompted me to look towards the Falkens. It's just that my consideration was tire-life (Since I won't do any performance driving with these), which I why I'm shying away.

Kenshin
discount tire...... got my falken azenis rt-615 there for $130/tire when they should've been $300/tire

Not really. I have dedicated winter tires so the new 3-season tires only need to cover the transition period spring and fall while the winters aren't on the car.

Yep, they had a really big test group a couple/few years ago (Nov of '03 or '04 I think), and I was looking specifically at the "performance" all-season category. The ZE-512 and RE950 were clear standouts IIRC.

But I'll have a look at those Dunlops you mentioned. Thanks.

Is that the *other* big mailorder chain in the US (like tirerack)? I was looking at their website the other day and if I understood correctly they only accept Amercian Express or Money Order for Canadian orders? (no VISA??)

If that is the mail order place, is that your price after shipping/tax/etc.?

With our dollar being so high, importing from the US should be getting a lot cheaper.

I've bought them from both Tire Warehouse and Kaltire (the ZE-512's) and they didnt last me 6 months on 225/40/R18's. I think I've wasted about $1000 worth of them in the last couple of years, not a recommended tire unless you have a stock ride. I priced out getting them off of Tiretrends compared to locally and Tire Warehouse had the best prices this time last year, thats with mounting and balancing. These places want more money for mounting and balancing if you bring in your own tires.

That's why I love having friends that tell me "Just bring me your rims and tires and I'll take care of it."

That way I get the top-notch job, without even having to pay for the weights. Hell, I think I might even get him to do my ball joints so I don't have to bother with that too :)

Yeah, I have the same deal too... Some times I get take off tires too, ya know ones that would normally be destroyed, but they're practically new...

Hmmm.... I could live with 50K tread life. But not 6 months.

Would I really burn them that quick on an essentially stock B15 Sentra SE? (205/55-16 or 205/50-16)

If I find out the price on the Traction T/A's I'll let you know - if I recall, the Traction T/A's are a recommended tire on the domestic V8 crowd.

I've got a couple people trying to find the flyer for that deal for me since it's only a couple weeks away.

I know Costco also usually has a tire promotion in the spring time as well, but I haven't checked out their prices since they can't beat my discount at CT.

Hey - Flavio is in your NECC club right? Talk to him - he can probably hook you up with some good prices at CT since he used to work there. At the very least, he'll get you last sale price on whatever tire you want, and maybe a little extra (10% off or something).

Should be ok, my 2 inch drop was hard on them and they werent too forgiving.

Lets just say it pays to know someone at the location on Whyte.

drastik
try www.1010tires.com as well. They're based out of BC.

BananaBoy
This is my 3rd spring-summer-fall with my 512's. Although they'll not the best tires I've used, I think there a great bang for the buck. They offer great grip on dry road, rain is there weakness. They have a nice rumble, unlike the whine of meny other performance tires.

I got mine at the Tire Wearhouse on the west side. If you go in on a quite morning, you might be able to talk the price down abit. I don't really like the attitude for the the counter guy but the guys in the back do good work.

I've drive to Fort Mac about once a month and have logged aleast 40,000 km on those tires. And anyone thats drives hwy 63 can tell you thats is it's a shitty road and the average speed it 120-140 km/h with lots of passing. How do some you go though a set of tires in 3 or 6 months?:dunno:

I ran 512's on my NA Z32 and switched them over one summer on my TT. I got them as a package with my Enkei wheels, and the sizes were a little small for the wheels (225 front on a 8 width wheel and 245 rear on a 9). I daily drove them on the two cars and autocrossed with them several times as well.

Impressions:

Noise: not bad, around town, definite hum on the highway, about the same as the Michelin Pilot Sports on my wife's G35.

Grip: Good around town, wet seemed fine but not exceptional. Autocrossing showed their weakness, as they would lose grip on corners after a few runs. Outside edge tread wore down after the '04 autocross season. Also, I autocrossed them in the pouring rain and stayed on course, some slippage, of course :D

Looks: Great. I like 'em. I got favorable comments when I had them.

Price: At the time, pretty unbeatable. There are more choices out there now, but still a good value tire. My buddy bought ES-100's for his AE-86, he wished he'd bought the Falkens instead.

Treadwear: Fair. After two years, they were done. Outside edges feathered pretty badly, inside edges wore down on the front (both Z's had negative camber on the front, not so bad on the back).

Summary: For daily driving they're fine. Handle rain fine, just don't push it too hard. For more agressive driving, autocrossing, track racing, no, they aren't the best choice. Again, I had pretty small tires spooned onto the 18" wheels (Hipari!) This I feel contributed to the treadwear in my case.

I was looking at purchasing the ZE-512's as my tire for my new wheel and tire combo but when i looked into i found out the are chewed up really easily. So i went with the Azenis and head to the tire warehouse south side they can get u good deals on the azenis. Talk to Todd or Curt.
Good Luck with the search.

Inzane
I ended up following a lead provided by Terry (Reflux). Smokin' deal on the 512's!

Thanks Terry!

Did this Kurt character used to work at Kal Tire on the west end do you know. If it's the same guy he was awesome when I dealt with him.

this discount tire is not in any affiliation with the mail order discount tire. thats my price before tax and upselling through Parts @ work. in other matters, its still a steal of a deal for these tires.
