| How does a BOV work and why dont all turbo cars have that hiss noise at shift? My buddies 89 Probe Gt makes no BOV noises. |

| from my understanding BOV's let off excess pressure from the Turbo. Not necessary at all but something cool to have. Its supposed to improve response for the turbo too I htink. Its just not necessary for a Turbo car....but cool to have. I could be wrong though. I'm not the most knowledgeable about this subject. |

| the "hiss" comes from the BOV venting to atmosphere. _most are not set up this way. _BOV's are not limited to turbo cars... supercharged cars also use BOV's.
BOV's are basically a valve which prevents the compressor from "backing up" when the throttle is closed. they open when vacuum is present.
cya
(Edited by CYA at 8:20 am on Sep. 18, 2001) |

[/b][/quote]
Not entirely correct either. Not all BOV's are open during vaccum. The HKS one I have is closed at vacuum. Several new design BOV's are made the same way. |

| So which BOV's make noises? And can you install one on any turbo car? |

techniclly.....you can make any car have the BOV noise. They have the BOV Speaker available for all the Naturally aspirated ricers now. hehe. And don;t forget the plastic front mount intercooler too!
I heard that the Blitz BOV is one loud mofo. Anyone have any comments? I'm usign a Type H BOV from TurboXS and I love it. |

| Ah geez, y'know I had the japanese website that manufactured those products sent to my from my buddy in Japan.
They have a sample of the BOV sound and it really, REALLY sucks... You'd do better yelling out a Bullhorn.
I have the Greddy type S BOV, it's adjustable so I can make it sound like: <PSSSHHHEEeeeooooo> or <PSSSSEEEoooOOOoooEEooo> It's pretty cool.
But I think I need to change it out for an OEM style recirculation valve. because my car stalls alot when I stoop for redlights (yes, I do stop) |

| I haven't had surging, bucking problems, but I spoke to the master programmer Clark Stepplar at JWT and he said because at idle, the valve should be open to allow the air to flow freely. An OEM style one will do this.
But I will try rotating the meter, thanks! Heck if I can do something to improve the drivability for free, what the #### |
