Any of you guys runs these puppys? I've read about them but want some personal input. Anything is appreciated. The G-tech is def. a nicer looking unit but a bit more money.

At least with it showing my low numbers I have something to blame:D |

I have the old school G-Tech Pro from circa 1997-98. It works fine. But I honestly haven't used it much in the last 5-6 years. Its a PITA finding a suitable abandoned stretch of road to use it. You need a nice flat stretch of road where you can "set" the unit while at a complete stop.
The newer versions might be a little easier to use because I think they make them self-leveling now. With my old one you had to get it level (while motionless) before you can set for your run. |

my beltronics one only needed to know that the whole road would be as flat as the spot that you stopped at. it would auto-calibrate for 3 seconds before starting the timed-run.
I always used mine for it's peak-hold feature showing the last "cornering G's" from whatever curve I just took.
My favorite thing to do with it is to take a corner a few times and get the peak G's, then change tires or tire pressures or whatever, and go cruising around the same corners again.
yes, it is fucking nerve-wracking to actually DO 1/4 mile runs full-out an a public road. I did it a couple of times with my turbo civic, but felt really guilty afterwards.
the times were within 10% of what I got at the track, HP was way out thanks to my inability to figure out and input the correct "tilt" definition and vehicle mass definition. something tells me that the unit might be expecting RWD "sit" which is different than FWD squat.
mine was also bolted to the rear-view mirror, instead of using the SUCK-tion cups. they might have calibrated it for the rubber mount somehow... |

| Diddn't get much of a chance to monkey with it this weekend but set it up just using the shiftlight feature. It flashes at 500 and 250 rpms before the redline you set, then it all lights up. Pretty cool looking but I'm running out of window space. |

Lol yes its a neat feature and kinda handy. I have the same problem in my miata though, not a big enough car to have shit cluttering up your vision. |

on another note, those who have them, what is your peak lateral G force.
I managed to put down a .91g |

I have the Gtech RR, I had the old school one back in the day. I love them, I use it a lot. It's broken a lot of peoples hearts, everyone thinks they're faster than they actually are.
As for their accuracy, it's pretty close, I ran a 12.5 on the Gtech with my Talon, then ran a 12.7 at the track. I ran a 13.6 on the Gtech with my NSX, then ran a 13.8 at the track, trap speed with the NSX on the Gtech was 103mph, and it was 101mph at the track.
The difference in times could easily be explained by location, air temp, or even me driving better one day. But it gives you a fairly accurate idea and that's what I need. |

In the miata I hit 1.07 with garbage tires and no suspension mods.
this is on a 90degree left hand corner in the industrial park in Morinville. |

The biggest difference between g-tech runs and thre track is going to be traction imo. The track is usually sticky as hell and well the street kinda sucks. But like you showed they are pretty accurate. |

I lied :D
I personally prefer big empty freshly paved parking lots. The roads in the industrial park are scary for that sort of thing. Too much gravel and too many blind corners. |

| In a parking lot I could prolly pull alot more then, as you know how narrow the inustrial park roads are imagine 1.07 around one of those corners;) |

Well considering you have no wheels on the back of your car, I don't imagine you will be pulling alot of G's
The strange thing is.... my G-force seems to max out at 1g
Maybe for comparison purposes we should try the same g-force in both cars :D |

Haha ya well asoon as my parts come in she be back on the road. You have to change your settings to get it to read over 1G. Not that a probe would need that adjustment lol:p |

| don't forget about car tilt: the sensor can sense more cornering force than what is actually there because the unit will be tilted slightly with the car relative to the ground. this also affects forward/reverse acceleration. if the compensation isn't programmed just so, it might change the 1/4 mile times and such |
