So I was looking on autotrader for mr2's for the hell of it and came across a 91 mr2 turbo with "54k, body kit, new paint, t-tops, 17" Konigs, leather etc.... $13,500" http://canadatrader.com/result/deta...gno=1&srt=1
Good price I thought, looks good I thought. So I went to go check it out.
Sure, it looks good from the outside. The paint actually looks spectacular. Its an orange with gold flake.
But then I started to notice the cons. Well, heres a list of them:
-Several areas of the kit don't fit well
-Paint looks good but there is overspray pretty much everywhere
-The front windows have some shitty ass tint on them and the back doesn't
-Driver side glass doesn't fit right and there is a pretty noticable gap
-There was pieces of broken glass pretty much everywhere inside
-Many interior pieces were either cracked or missing
-Gauges from pillar were ripped off and wires were sticking out
-There was an aftermarket steering wheel (Momo, so it looked good but got me wondering about if it was in an accident)
-Gauges were aftermarket which left a lot of room to question the authenticity of the km's (which were 59000 when I saw it)
-Leather looked pretty worn for the amount of km's
-The window sill plastic was cut up on the outside and the inside on both driver and passenger sides. The vandalizers obviously used something like an axe to hack at the glass.
-A plastic exterior piece was falling off on the passenger side
-Driver side side mirrow was cracked
-Interior was overall just plain dirty.
-Stock boost gauge wasn't working
-Car had a manual boost controller. (nothing wrong with that mod but for a shiesty car with no sense of how much you are boosting at, it can be pretty sketchy.)
Now for the load of shit that the salesman tried to feed me. At first he told me that the paint was a respray and that the MR2 was originally orange. Well first of all, MR2's weren't made in a colour anywhere near that, and the door jams and engine compartment were red. He finally admitted after I showed him that that it was originally red.
This car also has an HKS SSQV (which looked almost like a knock-off). After the car idled for a bit, I asked him if he would rev it up a bit so I could hear the turbo or maybe a bit of the BOV at least. Wasn't happening. He told me that it would do damage to the turbo and that the car wouldn't boost if it was just sitting there and not being driven. Straight bullshit.
He told me that the car was bought off an auction, a salvage auction. He told me that the car has a salvage title from having all of the windows smashed in from vandalism. Yah im sure MR2 glass isn't cheap especially the rear piece but NO CAR would get written off for something like that.
Thats pretty much where I walked away.
This is one of those cars where the dealership is just waiting for someone to come in and say "Oooo pretty car" and not do any background research and reap the benefits. If someone here is considering looking at or buying this car, I highly suggest doing some serious research. The way the salesman was acting it seemed like he was hiding something seriously wrong with the car.

haha you guys are all lost. i bought that MR2 and its a crazy pimped ride. They showed me pictures of the MR2 at auction with smashed windows, all pictures showed me where the damage was before repaint. The salesman at the dealership had no problem with me taking it for an inspection. Which passed with flying colors by the way. and i would have no problem with buying another car from trade and buy auto they have good salespeople and he gave me an awesome deal on the car.
So dont believe one persons post because he's a senior member. when in actuallity he prolly never even drove the car. PS the HKS blowoff valve will only fire when the transmission is engaged and the car is rolling. so thanks for your useless information bud. |
