Headgasket ...timing belt....h23 - Click HERE for Original Thread

chu77
Well, I know the headgasket is leaking, timing belt needs to be changed. Anyone on here did this to a h23 before? How hard was it? what kind of tools do you need?

I think I'll tackle both of them this summer, it'll be fun, but I don't want to damage the engine.

I don't want to swap in a h22, not worth it in an auto.

Any input? Or anyone want to do it for cash?

I think I'm too lazy to be human.....

common tools are the only things that might be needed. asides from things like gasket scrapers, torque wrenches, service manuals and high temp gasket makers, everything else should be in a typical tool box.

for a total retard, it can be hard, so for you... lets just say dont bother with this.

the hardest part might just be setting the cylinders to TDC, but even thats pretty easy to do. just be prepared to get dirty since this is somewhat labor intensive.

Sounds good, so I'll get some torque wrenches, high temp gasket makers, maybe use my neighour's impact if I need it.....

I got all summer so time is not a factor, it'll be fun to learn about the engine.

getting a specific service manual is very important. their not that expensive either

haha i jus brought mine to wilson's autotech, they charged me 390 for the timing belt. not bad a price...but then again you'll probably find a whole bunch of other stuff that needs to be fixed...water pump, cam seals, oil pumpdrive, etc.....

390 isnt bad considering it isnt a task that everybody can do like an oil change

Then I'll have to do the headgasket and timining belt sooner or later. lol

I got a manual on the internet for free:http://www.hondahookup.com/

Pretty good with lots of pics.

Question on the head bolts: clean them and reuse them?

And yeah, I'll do the water pump, cam seals, oil pumpdrive etc while I'm at it.

I've done the head gasket on my rex and re used te headbolts, no problems
