What do you look for in a carshow (indoor) - Click HERE for Original Thread

Markis
Hi guys,

I'm looking for more ideas on how to impove the Driven To Perform show in Edmonton. This year we're trying to expand even further outside of imports and trying to bring in more trucks, SUV and muscle.

Having said that, we're also bringing in Mercedes Terrell and hopefully other big name models. We are also aiming to bring in more feature cars. How can we make the show better for 780Tuner members.

Thanks.

2ndgenlude
stage shows and prize giveaways give a nice twist to a show. also i like seeing clubs represent and all, but also individuals that are just showing because they enjoy it. it seemed last year all the entries were club members. don't get me wrong, its good to see support, but its nice to get more people we havn't seen yet to compete.

Markis
Good point. I gotthat feedback also. I don't want the show to be a glorified UC meet.

We'll be pulling a lot of crews out of Calgary for the show.

dc2696
I don't know about everyone else but I like seeing some different cars that may not be up to "show" quality but are unique. Maybe a few clean looking cars, no kits or anything would be nice.:)

Dan_s_young
Personally I like to see a variety of cars. Cars that actually have stuff done to them is always a bonus, I get bored looking at stock cars with body kits... I'm into rotaries so its always a awesome bonus when there is a few of them in a show!

Inzane
Removing some of the obscene non-relevant content, like that MC/DJ contest last year, would help.

I took some video of the show last year, panning around at the various cars and booths, and in some segments all you can hear in the background is some wannabe thug on the microphone swearing like a MoFo!! (I'm actually embarrassed to show my video footage to some people because of that.)

Not exactly inviting to those who wish to bring family to check out the show. If the ultimate goal is to increase attendence, by both participants and spectators, we should try not to offend or alienate anyone.

Just my 2 cents.

i agree.. this is not the states.. who needs mc's anyways? gayyy

Agreed.

I'm more of a fan of the racing side of the car shows so I'd like to see some more race inspired displays maybe some In put from the tracks like castrol & stratotech. I've seen shows where they have the moblie dyno come out but I don't think our venue would be the best from something like that but it's still cool. Prizes prizes prizes real prizes not scam prizes where they call you a hundered times trying to suck you into pyramid scams and such. Give out wings, body kits, lighting, cams, nitrous kits even passes out to the drag's or to the Grand Prix. Real prizes not crap.

More cross-promotional events that tie the whole thing together.

I mentioned it in another thread, but one way to increase attendance is to increase exposure. How do we increase exposure? One way is to create events that would cater to people that might not be interested in the carshow. An example I mentioned, was to have a nice, large concert-type event.

By increasing the overall exposure of all the events, you may start reaching people that you couldn't before. As well, if you can create something that people look forward to for a year, there's that much more word of mouth.

You can even tie in with other events, such as Champ Car. I'm not sure on the logistics of it, but I can't see them not wanting to be in a place where a large number of people are interested in their event. Perhaps getting a display (And an actual car), along with some of the Champ Car girls? Or even better yet, why not see if you can tie in with their events, co-sponsered if you will? Having exposure in Edmonton and Calgary (And I think it's safe to say there are people that come from Calgary to the show) might be useful to them...

have shows but remove battles like insane mentioned

get people who are actully good at doing shows what ever it may be singing dancing magic, hypnotist, and just have entertainment quality entertainment

like a show every 2hrs.. or 1 hrs say u start with first show at 1,2,3,4 diffrent stage act and then repeat at like 6, 7 , 8, 9 so when people come to look at cars then they acan go see a 15-20min stage act and then they can go back to looking at vehicles

door prizes nothing big just something to give to back to the people taht come to watch. you enter you get A ticket and like do a afternoon door prize and evening door prize can be things like free photo in car of your choice with A model

it will be like momento to take back

or give away things like freebie items shirts hats or what not

last time prizies were only given away on the last day and just before closing

notaturbotalon
I would rather have a host for the show rather than some badass gangsta thug MC, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has wanted to punch past MCs in the mouth.

If a "shop" is part of the show, tell them that they are no different than any other entrant into the show and don't let them, or their "crew";) run around taking control of the show.

It may be possible to get Microsoft to bring an Xbox booth, I've seen it done at a house party, so it can't be that hard to do.

Dyno Contest!

Why not give the edmonton dyno queens a chance to shine?

And I would like to see some actual race cars out. Like mentioned above. I know that may be a difficult task but it would be nice to see.

Markis
Done - we'll cut out any rapping that is involved. We'll keep the dancing and bikini contests.

We are expanding outside of imports with spoilers and bodykits. I hope people can make it to the Calgary show on June 10. That will have a wide range of interests. From race cars to drift cars. Also a lot of trucks and SUVs.

We don't have a good way to award prizes, any ideas?

Maybe we do some creative stuff for prizes this year. I really appreciate the input!

driftr420
go for a game show feel,

kill 2 birds with one show

SimO
humm ok but to be fair, alot of ppl come for the hip hop shows mc battles etc etc those ppl are prolly not on this site. however even though that demographic only comes up as a non substantial percentage, compared to those that come for the cars. i'd still say there are a alot that come to watch the battles. i know i do. maybe just find a better place to put it.

not sure how the judging categories are setup, but i would suggest insted of doing like HONDA: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place... maybe do smaller prizes and divide them into sub categories like stock 1,2,3rd, mild 1,2,3rd, wild 1,2,3. that way you're giving out more awards but the stock and mild awards could be something small like only worth a couple bucks.

that is a very good idea. nothing like seeing a T66 supra or big-power FD putting down power right infront of you.

To make sure the all the cars are judge in a fare & non-bias way, not to say that they might have not been before. :dunno:

Also, less Rice more HP cars/ race cars etc...

just my 2 cents

I agree, in some past shows it seemed like those sponsoring the show had a bit of an advantage and so did everyone who had one of their decals on their car - and no I dont mean E-Z

But as for rice, to some degree I dont mind it, it is a car show after all, so I expect to see more show and less go, and just the opposite if I were at a track event

Savage
i would definitley like to see more show and go vehicles than strictly painted interiors and ridiculous sound systems but like stated above i tottaly understand that it is a "show".

300zxgal
Hi there!

Okay chicks perspective 1:

Everyone knows here that I'm not a big rice fan. But these are the guys putting money into a paint job that is worth polishing up for the indoor shows.

But on the same note there is quite a few people that have really nice looking cars.. and the only time i see them is in the parking lot at events such as these. Maybe invitations are too corney.. or maybe have a sponsorship that would make trying to enter your ride worth it. A price for the best 'street driven' car. Instead of show cars, with a substancial amount of cash.. or maybe credit at a local shop?

I love the idea of a dyno contest. I think that would be amazing to see, and being female that would excite me more than a bikini contest. I dont know how feasable this would be, but really would make a neat addition for future years. and give people a reason to add horsepower to show cars instead of rice. Instead of bragging about the 'best in show honda' or whatever its called.. being the top horsepower honda for me would be more prestegous, because you have to do the builds right. I think that kind of idea would change the way some people view 'tuners' cars.

my $0.03

I would like to see something along the lines of the Vision Entertainment and Hot Import Nights road show. But again, we are talking Edmonton here, so the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Wow, I actually really like that idea. It would be sweet to see some people throw down some big numbers in front of an audience! Good Idea!

dc2696
If the dyno runs were pretty cheap we could prolly get a few ppl on there.

Please no big escaldes with spinners....Pretty please. Get the NADP guys there with there diesel products, that would be pretty sweet but suv's suck.

Shady_Pro
how about not advertise the shows on one of the least listened to stations in the city...by that i mean 91.7 the bounce...sure most guys on here are into lil bow wow and the pussy cat dolls but if you look at the stats there is a small majority of people that actually listen to the station day in day out that actually are involed with all of this....my idea have a word with MR PAUL BROWN - THE BEAR

Good idea. Advertise on the rock stations, 102.9 bitches! or the best station around 96.7 THE RIG!

Shady_Pro
ya advertising to a buncha 14 year olds doesn't sell tickets to the shows cause they have to ask there parents to drive them and pay for there ticket hahaha

300zxgal
I dunno... i keep going to these edmonton car shows.. and i always see the same cars.. so why would i keep paying $12 to see the same things over and over again.

They key is something new i am thinking..

dc2696
Get some calgary cars or sumthing maybe.:dunno:

ehos
Most of the nice cars don't even bother entering the car shows.

It's just not worth anyone's time. Make it easier for them to enter, make it worth their while and you'll see some of the better cars show up.

Nicer cars show up at informal meets because you can pull up, hang out, and LEAVE when you're bored.

Ya I wouldn't want my car sitting on display all weekend when I wasn't there either.:dunno:

SunkistShark
I think u should keep the awards the way u hav'em. Best Honda.. Best Toyota... and so on. If you just do a "Powerama" style award then the little guys who may not have put the big bucks into their ride wont have a chance up against a car with 30g's +

sparkycivic
how about a special display of "home grown" engineering examples from the garages of the enthusiasts.

Markis
Very good suggestions guys.

Overwhelmingly:

- scale down the hip hop element
- focus on variety, include more trucks and muscle

Sound about right?

For the truck section is it more 4x4 or street trucks or whatever comes thru the door? I love pretty ladies in bikinis as much as the next guy, but I never really see the point. I know I will be in the minority on this one, but to each thier own. I don't know how this would work, but how about a tech section? This would be a both or some tables that are maned by some local guys that know cars. It can be hard to find a good source for technical information. If I could sit down with a guy that I could trust and ask a few questions that would be cool. Guys could ask about engine tuning maybe a good suspension set up fot thier car. I don't know how you would find the good techno guys, but I have never seen this at a show before. I look foward to coming to my first DTP show this summer.

Tech Section Is a DAMN good Idea.. Edumacate people on how turbo's work.. How 4 Cycle engines work.. and Why Tuning is important and whatnot...
Damn Good Idea!!!

and I also agree with the rap thing.. Get that the fuck outta there.. I'm not a Rap fan.. and It Kinda Ruined the last show for me.. Car show's should be strickly a car show.. and showing off what they can do.. That's what we love and that's what we Love to see!! (And Keep the babe's In bikini's.... Everyone loves them too!!)

personally for me, the only car show I enjoyed was sport compact nights at the shaw two years ago. The awards were broken down in terms of car make, etc.....but also had an award for best engine, best performance, etc. My car would never do a best of show because the paint is not perfect, it isn't slammed on 19's, and it doesn't have 20 tv's in it. But it picked up best performance car that year. That meant more than "best honda". I just think a car show needs to incorporate all the enthusiasts out there....and to draw some higher hp builds, you need to reward them. There is no way in my mind that a blinged out sport compact with 120hp should beat something with 4 times the power, blood, sweat, and tears in it. So perhaps categorize the awards to separate the show cars, from the purpose built go cars.

I love the idea of a location dyno......I would love to go just to see all the high hp builds out there. That is what I look for in a show now, so just remember to cater to all the people out there.

Perhaps Mark, you should show up to a large 780tuners UC meet and speak to some people there, perhaps extend some invites, and go from there. Word of mouth would go a long way, and I know I could probably convince some calgarians to come.

Under the way its done now, sure it should. A car that has 400 hp is cool and all, but if its stock then some car that has a great deal of show should definately win (again we are talking about car shows) However I think adding performance categories would be a good idea since they should be rewarded for their hard work as well.

notaturbotalon
As for the tech section, not sure how well that would work. I wouldn't want idiots coming up to me all day asking questions and arguing with me if it's not what they wanted to hear. I think it's best to just have people ask the owners of the cars how it works or what they suggest if they have a similar ride. Who in a car show wouldn't want to talk about their car?

Praylewd powr

That is the point I was trying to make.....I completely agree that the show car will win every time. But that is also the reason I think that some other show worthy cars stay far from the events. Adding performance categories are precisely what I am suggesting.

btw though....a 400hp car that is cool and all......isn't stock.

(and considering a show called "driven to perform", I would expect some performance cars and not all show cars)

my 2 cents.

if you trying to get more show cars or more competitors to send in entries so u can then chose the cream of the crop and turn the rest away offer like catering program each competitor can chose to buy ticket to a lunch thing this way competitors can get to talk to other competitors

lower entry fees a bit or include lunch with it

Praylewd powr
lower entry fees, larger prizes.....
