Picking up a new ride, 2005 Nissan Maxima. Good car? Bad Car? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey guys i'm picking up an '05 black nissan maxima in a week here and was wondering what some pros and cons of this car would be (tuning, cost of labor on VQ engine, etc). I'm not much of a nissan expert and never thought I'd be getting this ride but price was right so decided to cop it. Thanks

They are nice cars, but I would be more interested in improving the handling instead of working on the motor. They are already quite quick and any more torque steer would be really annoying. But the car is a boat and the handling isn't very good. Fix that first.

ya it's quite the boat

I've driven an older Maxima before, the steering wheel feels very very light. I have a very loose feeling when i'm turning.

does anyone have any experience with a newer maxima?

Malaria
yes i do, i drive them all the time at work, great cars ton of power, quite a bit torque steer but its not overwhelming, tons of features, great fun if u get the 6 spd lots of fun if u get the auto, its a bit of a pig but still easy to drive, i like the 6 spd maxima over the altima SER. if you can get your hands on one GO FOR IT!

just take it to a dealer, or make sure the subframes got replaced, there was a recall a while ago for 2004-2005 altimas and maximas to replace the rear subframe cause they rusted to quickly.

all things consitered the maxima is a great car!

I drove on for two weeks forget if it was an 05 or 06, eitherway the only con I really found was the passenger seat is very un comfy.
I think you will be happy with your buy. Forgot the auto tranny was starting to slip with only about 10k on the car a hard 10k but no nutrual drops or anything.

Thanks guys! thats some good input... say i didnt buy the car from dealership, will they still replace the subframe for me or will i have to do that at a shop?

Malaria
you would take it into a nissan dealer and they could figure out if it had the sub frame swaped or not, and you wouldnt be charged for it

Just for your info; I had a 98 Maxima se 5 speed fully loaded and I had not one problem with the car. I even had a stillen supercharger on it and still had nothing break on it. I sold it at 85000km's. As far as I'm concerned the maxima is a bullet proof car. Even to this day I miss it.
