Can someone suggest some car decks to me that are fairly good quality for their price but also has a option to be able to plug your ipod directly into the deck instead of using one of those FM transmitters so you don't get the occassional static experienced with using FM transmitters?
Also anyone recommend any decent dvd/navi systems perferably with a popup screen that has the same ipod option?
Thanks. |

thanks for the suggestion I'll look into it.
I've been doing a bit of research on a Carputer with a indash screen....does anybody know of any shops that would have the expertise to do a install for this or even sell the parts needed to get this kind of project done? |

| For flip ups, alpine and jvc are the standards. |

| Pioneer is also a good screen and has the full Ipod interface so you can control the Ipod from the deck instead of using the ipod itself. Alpine also gives you this option as does Clarion and Im sure others. As for the carputer, I have done one but the parts didnt come from my shop, its something the customer bought over the net. |

| The only real problem I have with Panasonic is the preout voltage is a scewed number. They say 5 volt preouts but actually on the sub preout line when you test it using sub frequencys, say 100 hz (which is still high for most applications) they only actually produce around 2.7 volts. Thats still more than enough for most amps as their operation range is generally 200mhv - 4 V but Id still prefer complete discolsure on their products. |

Alpine does the same thing with their sub preouts too. I wonder why...
I agree with Pioneer. I really like the new Premier 880. The features on that deck for the price are phenomenal! |

| I wasnt even gonna comment on Alpine but since you brought it up, not only do they do this but they also misrepresent the distortion levels on their decks. At full drive on their "5volt" preouts on the sub line its actually 3.6 volts at 34% THD. Thats a fucking travesty to me but to the 16 year old thumper out there thats gonna make your subs in you trunk sound louder. They will have almost no control but they will boom. O Well |

| i stand by alpine... unless your going competetion they are the best deck on the market... ive never heard any deck out sound an alpine one in terms of clarity.. i switched from the top of the line JVC deck that cost me like 800 to a 200 Alpine old model and it 100% outperformed the jvc in everyway.. and ive never used another brand since. |

:wtf:
i really do hope you are kidding. alpine is slowly going the way of the buffalo. listen to ravendarat he know's his shit. and i've been playing with EVERY name brand of deck that you can get at retail stores in edmonton. believe it or not, i have heard rampage decks that sound better than alpine low end crap.
if you compare old school.. ok. i would most certianly agree that back in the day alpine was some pretty good shit. but in most applications you had to use crossovers and a whole bunch of extera units to do the same thing that new age decks do on thier own. alpine is stuck in the past, and are only carried by a few manufacturers (SP?). i give them 5 years before they call it a day:limpwrist |

| I dont see alpine going outta buisness any time soon, but to say they out preform everyone in clarity is simply not true. A look at some real benchtest results will prove that quite quickly. However they do have their own unique sound to them, like a lot of decks do, and if you like the sound then all the more power to you. |
