So Heres the story

My brother bought cobra radar detector from certified Radio. Worked awesome for about a month and then one day randomly fried.

And i mean fried, the thing got red hot and was smoking. So unplug right. put in box, return to store. (As part of 1 YEAR warrenty)

We are told that Certified Radio can do NOTHING for this, and that it has to be taken up with COBRA.
The "nice" owner there definatly gave us the runaround, denying that the thing had ANY sort of warrenty until we pulled out the policy. Said that certified radio doesnt honor that type of thing and that its Cobra's problem and call to either repair or replace it. I know this isnt a VALENTINE, but It did cost around $300 which is a chunck of money for a highschool kid.

not very customer friendly IMO, and the guy was DEFINATLY trying to get out of replacing the thing himself.

is there more than 1 location ?

Tech2
That sucks.

It will also affect my idea of where to make my next purchase.

REDX2NV
Yea, certified wasnt the place it used to be.

I got quoted a $180 for a $55 part there, plus a 4-6 month wait. I ordered directly from clarion and got the $55 piece in less than a week. Markup much?

Just.. horrible experience. I was going to buy the same system for my new car. But after that i'll deal with shawley at best buy. What a gong show!

superspeed
probably the reason why they said for your to deal with cobra is because its a manufactuer*sp* warrnety not a certified radio warrenty?

yews but there are ways to deal with people so they think they are getting a good deal out of the whole process.

You may in fact be correct, however i work in a similar situation as these certified guys, and really was not impressed.

Car_Be_Gone
the conclusion? Is the warranty from CR or the manufacturer? Either way...they sold a faulty product and being that it's been such a short time I'd raise hell....get me in there!!
Do like that Wal-Mart joke (woman goes to return something..blah blah-gets runaround...she starts yelling "squeeze my nipples squeeze my nipples! Saying that she likes her squeezed when she's getting screwed...) You get the idea...be a bitch, I would...but then again I normally am...

Ravendarat
Being a bitch only works some of the time. When people are pricks to me in my Shop I become a much bigger Dick back and its prety much assured that Im not gonna do a fucking thing for em. Fuck them if they cant be civilized. With that said, they should be taking care of warrenty being it was sold in their shop. In Canada most manufacture warranties are handled at the store level. Thats why registration cards are usually not nessasary in Canada.
I would simply point out that you know where the BBB is and they should probally take care of this matter before you feel the need to visit it.

Hi 300zxgal,

Sorry to hear of your missfortunes with them. First thing I would do is call another Certified Radio location and ask them a general question not specificially pointing out your self.

Ie) "I am curious, what is your return policy and warranty on the cobra radar detector"

They will then give you your answer and then you can either nail them to the wall if it is the answer you are looking for, or then you realize you are up that proverbial creek with out a paddle.

Information is power. Use it wisely! :D

I have known some people that have had great service with Certified Radio on the South Side. Last time I went there I had my starter installed. I needed to return my car 10 TIMES to get misc stuff cleaned up, installed, repaired, fixed, that they forgot to do.

Let us know how you make out.

Customer is always right, first rule, if you don't honour it you'll lose more in the long run. Lots of these smaller shops are like that, just avoid them in the future.

shawley
at bestbuy if this happened

and it was past 30 days with a cobra radar dector

we would be doing the same thing asking the person to go deal with cobra themselves because thats how it's delt with and thats why there is extended waruntys lol

if you had our PSP it would be direct exchange on the unit for a new one but then again you pay more for that

i'm sure certified would be able to get this worked out, but really give cobra a call and see if they can help

300zxgal
thansk for checking into it shawley.

Certified radio called and said if we dopped in they would give us a new one.

I'm sorry it had to get into a few other things before they validated the warrenty, but im happy they decided to do the right thing

thanks for your input everyone!

Dopey88
ok I know this has been solved but who were you dealing with???

Ralphie

300zxgal
Hey ralphie.

My bro seems to think it was you

Dopey88
I know for a fact it was not me.

Ralphie

300zxgal
alright then he doesn't know
