whats the difference between a muffler and an exhaust?

Driven
A muffler is the end portion.. the most visible part of the exhaust system.. a mufflers consists of a round cannister to muffle sound.. and two tips that the exhaust comes out of. An exhaust system.. can be defined as everything from the block.. to the muffler.

A muffler is a hollow piece of pipe attached to an accountant's Hemi Cuda. It emits 130db of nostalgia and attracts no tickets.

An exhaust is attached to a kid's Civic. It emits 130db of scary street racing and is obviously indicative of imminent street racing.
