Hmmmmmmmmmm, don't remember precisely........
Both my desktops are AMD's, 1.4 and 2.8 i believe, my Gateway Laptop, i think is 1.4?
All have 1GB of RAM, it's a necessity these days.....
My 2.8 has a Gforce card, and 80GB HD, Kingston memory, and it plays Doom3 real good!!
Laptop, plays Doom3 very slowly w/built in Nvidia video.........
And the 1.4 won't play it........
But my 2.8 does!!!!!
Oh, the 1.4 only has 768 of Ram, and it crashes all the freakin' time, now i remember........
My 2.8 is awesome, has 1GB of Kingston Ram, 80GB Seagate, DVD, DVD RW+/-, built in sound is fine, and a Gforce 9600 pro?
Something that cost me $160ish.........
The stupid Gateway Laptop is a doorstop right now too, the power cable freaked out........
Before that, awesome couch potatoe computer, played everything but Doom3.
Rob out...... |

Asus recommends minimum 500W PSU for that rig.. I think thats the same mobo I'm using in the toy... Bumping to say a 600 or a 535 true power psu would help quite a bit |

I got a basic setup.
Pentium 4 2.8 dual core (whatever that is?)
CD+DVD reader writer
2 gigs DDR2 SDRAM @ 533mhz
Radeon X600 on Omega drivers.
7.1 sound card. Dunno name
2.1 140 watt system
Standard monitor 17'' viewable.
I dunno what else but it plays pretty much anything on high settings no problem. I do get some lag issues with max anti-aliasing , shadows , lighting. I have less issues since I got CFOSwatch , Omega 3.8 drivers and disk keeper.
:dunno: not fancy like most of yours but more than adequete for me :D |

Really? I have a 7800 GTX and 2 gigs of hot RAM, and some of the newer games are starting to slow down my system a bit. I guess I'll have to settle for only 4x AA and 8x AF from now on! :D
I'd reccommend upgrading to at least 1 or 2 gigs of RAM soon though. The bigger HD will be nice, but with double the RAM, you would see a noticable improvement. Also try and find some optimized driver for that card. Last time I used an ATI card the Omega drivers were the ones to have. |
|

^^^^ in response to the Omega Drivers....
They turned my simple Radeon x600 into a MONSTER!
Omega Drivers are great for radeon and nvidia too!
Last I heard hes makin drivers for MAcs aswell but I havent heard much about it. |

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll definately look into the Omega drivers! The HD and 1 gig of RAM won't come 'til this fall, I'm sure.
FYI, the RAM I have now (756MB's) is 3 times more than what I had a week ago. |

200GB SATA2 8mb cache Seagate drive
400GB SATA2 16MB cache Seagate Drive.
True power 550PSU

What Omega Driver did you pick? It doesnt overly matter but Im just curious. : ) Also another program that helps alot more is Disk Keeper. I dont know how to use it very well , I guess it defrags better than your onboard and can defrag the program files more efficiently than windows Disk Defragmentation. However it is tricky to configure as I found out the hard way. I know a guy who uses it for managing his pc just for gaming. He uses 512mb of ddr ram and a 9800 nvidia 256 Vcard. It went from super lag to efficient enough to run higher settings like a ram upgrade. It did however change his PC's WP capabilities but he doesnt do WP anyway so....
Im not 100% sure what disk keeper is all about but I know it works for playing games and for other PC uses makes thngs work with more potential runs things smoother. All I need is for somebody who knows what it is and how it works to explain it better than I just did. Cus Im still a noob LOL! |

I went with "Radeon Omega Drivers 3.8.252 (Catalyst 6.5)". I may give that Disk Keeper a try. |
|
|

| I use O&O Defrag, I set it to do it automatically, so if my system is idle it defrags itself.. much much better than windows does, I can also choose by space, accessed, etc. |

Thats a great driver for ATI cards , the most up to date.
I just got the full version of disk keeper , its a complicated program but Im gonna be using it to maximize my file efficiency. I hope I dont bunger up my system like I did in the past with the shareware version. The version I just got is called Disk Keeper 10 Professional. Damn expensive program!
I also just got Registry mechanic which does a deep scan on your registry to also maximize pc performance. Gets rid of crap you dont use and can restore crap you thought you didnt need but do so your system runs top notch.
Again I gotta add , Im a noob so I cant really explain in detail much more than this , all I know is it makes my system run like its on steroids without hurting anything. I dont overclock either and Im getting wicked fps ratings on BF2 on high settings (my own benchmark tester)
Before running on medium settings I would be getting 25 fps on 1028x680 res. now I get 50-60fps on mostly high settings doing this very process. I hope the disk keeper runs it even higher and more stable cus then I can rest assure my game play wont be affected by any video lag at all when I am getting artied , naded and jet bombed at the same time. In BF2 of course.....
I can easily run on much higher resolution settings aswell but I prefer 1028x680 cus Im mostly used to it and its what my monitor is rated at , stupid 17 inch viewables LOL!
G'Luck with the changes Crazi :) |

I would figuer your rig would 3d mark higher.. My bro's with the Single core 3500+ Am2, and a 9750GX@ does 03 at high 26,000 twice, and low 27,000 once. I haven't run 05 or 06 yet... every time I try to dlwonload them the wife screams about how it lags her gaming.. might have to remote in from work, when she's at work to do it. |

how good is the wireless stuff? does the batteries last long on it or are you changing every week? |

| when i had the keyboard i would change the 2 AA batts every 6 months or so, the mouse came with a base station that has a built in charger and came with 2 AA 2100 MaH batts so you just recharge when the mouse tells you its low (blinking red light) the mouse batts lasted me for a 3 day lan party... 3 days straight bout an hour hour and a half break each day but i forgot to put the mouse on the charger  |

| I bought a Logitech G7 a few weeks ago, and WOW am I impressed. The battery cartridges charge in 2 hours, and last about 3 with heavy gaming use. It feels identical to my mx510, but there is no cord, and it slides way better! |

: ( Cordless mouses dont last long with me at all. Im pretty pathetic , I play an average of 10+ hours straight of FPS games so I would need at least 2 ofem. Also I dont like big bulky mouses cus they are the ones I could afford.
Wire optical/laser for me and Im content. : ) |

Ethernet adapter quit on me so I've updated to the D-Link DGE-530T PCI Network adapter, no problems yet.
Also went ahead and put in a DVD burner while I had the cover off. |

I just installed 8 of those adaptors in an office running gigabit...I find the hard drives start to be the bottleneck. |

bottleneck?
It says it can do 10/100/1000 (whatever that means???) and I check and it's doing 10. What would making it 100 or 1000 do? (and how?) |

If your only doing internet stuff you'll never get more than 1 - 2mb. In an office senario your transfering files between the server and the workstation. In my case thge client computers will only transfer at 140-200mb, but if I get a few more clients going the server is good to about 600-700mb.
Your connect speed is different from what your actually using. If your connect is only 100mb, the only way to get it up to 1000mb, is to get a gigabit device for the other side of the wire, but like I said, if your just using internet, no point, unless you have other computers. |

gigabit lans are good for spidering files with your friends, or in a professional office as silverneon said, otherwise they are mostly advertising hype.
mind you, transferring a 8.4 gig dvd image in 14 minutes IS pretty impressive. |
