I have a "test" version of Windows XP Pro. I just recently got a windows update that I have not installed, which is asking to install something to check and see if my windows is genuine. If it is not genuine, it will not send me anymore updates.
Does anyone know of a fix or a patch so I can install this and continue getting updates other than purchasing a copy from a store.
Thanks for the help.

I've never "tested" out XP before, so I'm not overly sure as to whether that'll do what you're hoping. I get XP for $15 from work ;) |

Hmm suprised nobody else said this, a legit copy would help...
Sometimes for other updates anyhow you can click on the little update icon in the task bar, uncheck the update and it'll go away, it'll prompt you if you want to try again later for that update, you just select no.
I've run the Cracked XP corp copies before, they where fine, just couldn't get SP2.
Right now due to buying a laptop rather than building another machine I have a legit copy of XP Pro, my other machines are either a legit W2K server or a E-licensed(legit) XP pro. |

I've bought a legit copy of pro...a couple months later my key stopped working and microsoft refused to help me. I still have the COA and original xp pro cd here in front of me so I don't care if someone needs to bypass it and obviously they know they should have a legit copy. Microsoft told me to buy another copy the method I think u states, the e-license and that's all they'd do for me. |

Thats wierd, sometimes they'll issue you a new key... unless they think/have proof you distributed it or broke the agreement somehow. |

For a fee they will issue you a working key. I think it's ~$30. |

They just told me my only option was I had to buy and e-license for xp pro and they told me it was 100 and something dollars. I asked them if they could just issue me another key and they said no.

And yet, you ask him where he is located and he will say "Redmond Washington".
I have a friend who used to work for a call center here in Edmonton that had a contract to handle calls for Microsoft. He was told, if asked by a client where he was, his one and only answer was "Redmond, Washington" and if he answered any other way, he would be fired.
It's Microsoft's way of fighting outsourcing of Murrikin jobs. Sorry, I'm diverting this thread off topic. |

you can't get past validation these days unless you have a system file to put in the windows directory.
a while back before I bought XP that's what I did and it worked good :) |

how about quit stealing windows.
If you have a "test" copy you either burned a copy (illegal) or downloaded it (Also illegal). Microsoft also does not make "test" copies of windows XP.
The only way to get a "test" copy is to have an MSDN subscription, and then you get all microsoft software for free.
So yea...quit cheaping out and just buy a copy (which comes with a license agreement and a certificate of authenticity that makes it legal BTW) |
