Rota rims FTL? - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
Story behind this is that the driver was doing 75mph, hit a bump and the wheel just gave out.

Driven
was the rim ever raced on before? this isn't local is it?

shorti
so one rim out of thousands and thousands broke?
rota still costs fractions of most big name companies saving customers hundreds of dollars.

rotas still FTW

2forgo
i had the original that rota copied ( mugen rnr ) and that design is prone to breaking even in the mugen version... but i've seen a few threads on h-t of rotas breaking - especially the c8 model

Soulfly
wow... is that ever fucking lame...

Well you get what you pay for.. but nobody knows the real history of the rims that break.

True Enough...

If you Beat anything too much.. it'll break..

That's why .. when you smash potholes.. you get the rim's checked for Micro Fractures.. :p

SketchifisT
Well this has always been an issue with cheaper rims / lighter ones from Japan. Why most go for the ones out of Europe like BBS and OZ

Not saying Rotas have a problem but i have seen 3 rims cracked here in BC alone , they sell a lot but there is an issue with them on rough roads , so the issue is be careful. THis being said they are alot better then the SSR rims which would bend no matter what ( says reviews ) i have not seen those in person but after reading 15 reviews of bent rims , i decided it was not the rim i wanted since i will drive it on the road as well.

Sucks that the rota rim gave out, maybe had a flaw or had hit some bad stuff before, but in the end you get what you pay for. You crack the piggy bank and get a higher end light weight rim , most time it will hold a bit better. But depends what your application is.

THis all being said i would still buy Rotas

yea people save money but they are knockoffs......

liek i would rather say i have Work Emotions.....not i have Rota Torques

kyuu
If money wasn't a concern then I would be thinking that too. But until then Rotas are a pretty good bang for the buck deal

Driven
Some of those subaru guys use them as winter wheels haha..

Buddyworm
Oooooh. Haha, I was just wondering to myself today why people hate on Rotas. Now I know

B-Wurm :D

I dont think that driver heard a "bang" it was more like a "crack" for his buck ....when his wheel let go .... rota is garbage ...case closed ...they are many other cases such as this ...dont cheap out on wheels

That thread should have alot of opinions both ways and a number of those guys are STi owners and they have Rota wheels on as their track wheels for their autocross events. They actually race on those rims and if they were so prone to breaking I'm sure the Impreza community would have heard about if first since Rota makes so many of their wheels with high offsets like 48+ that are recommended for GD chassis Imprezas.

No doubt they're no lightweight forged high quality Volk or Works but they're not complete garbage either.

Edit: Page 11, post 270 talks about Gary Sheehan a professional race car driver who ran Rotas on his race car for 2 seasons

TyPhOOnSliPPerY
awesome ... a company that makes ridiculously high offset ... I totally want my wheel spokes sticking out from the body of the car ...that looks awesome ...
Not every rota wheel is going to crack and break .... but it is a better chance of it happening for sure and cheaping out on the parts that hold you to the road such as tires and rims is just foolish

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...ht=rota+failure

SilviaDrifter
you should not cheap out on any part of your car......that is jus foolish..

kyuu
Those ridiculously high offsets are needed for Imprezas and Evos. The STi's BBS stock wheels are +50 offset

Obviously if you push your car to the limits then getting some really strong wheels for the track is the way to go but these wheels aren't going to break anymore easier than other wheels of the same price range for daily driving and as shown on the nasioc boards for some track use too. Rota wheels are cast just like other wheels are that aren't forged.

ftl

I bagged the fuck out of my old probe with el cheap MSR 18" wheels and never had a bend or crack.

Ignorance here is astounding.

I'm not saying I wouldn't rather have something expensive and nice but not everyone can afford the best there is. My rota are light and look good enough for me:)

tintin
i use my rotas for winter :D

i only use volk.

mm i agree, rays all the way

SilviaDrifter
i love rays...but work is just as good

REFLUX
all you guys are such wheel snobs
:p

Laser
The reason rotas are so much cheaper is the materials and the manufacturing process are less strong.

go for a reputable company like rays, hse, bbs, oz and you will be better off int he long run.

The difference is cast wheels vs forged.

haha he already has rotas :D

uncle ben
for all you people who are knocking rota's saying thay aren't built that well. First of all, if you took all the mugen and volk and spoon rims rolling around in this province and added them together, that number would not even come close to half of the rota's on the roads today. Clearly with more of them out there, there will be more pictures of broken rims on the internet. And if you're still convinced about the added safety of the supposed high quality aftermarket rims that came on your JDM car when it rolled off the boat, I've got a real shocker here. Why not stick with rims that will outlast any aftermarket rims out there. Why not stick with wheels that are designed for your specific car, to withstand years of abuse. Stock rims!!!
