Post Questions here regarding the V8less event. I'm sure I missed things in the FAQ and here is your chance to ask them.

EG6 SiRII
are all the volunteers going to meet up and find out what they're suppose to do on the 30th?

Liroy
How are you planning on advertising this out so the 'whiter' population gets to read this as well. I know a lot of Polish guys have crazy VW's in the city, and a lot of other white people that dont go on Asianet would want to come out. Just out of curiosity of course, no racial harm intended.

EG6 SiRII
that's why we're handing out flyers at stores around town.

Great Question Liroy,
AsiaNet is not a Asian Pride site. The moderators have locked and deleted several posts that are could be misinterpreted as White-bashing, Asian-bashing, or plain rude.
In fact over 20% of the users on Asianet are proudly not asian. The content may be "Asian" but is not meant for asians alone.
Back to your question, after a week of complaints :)today marks the kick off of the promotion of V8less. You will see posters at places from Street Gears Imports to Colour Blind.
Liroy, I'd love to give you some flyers, posters and would welcome you as a volunteer for the event. Same goes to anyone who is interested.
If so, post here and keep visiting for the latest updates.

I'm working with Kimberly at Budpark to determine exactly where the volunteers will be needed. I will have a volunteer job posting in about 4 days. In total we will require about 20 people to help with the event. We already have about 10, so I need about 10 more.
Don't step forward until you hear what the duties are. I can't promise that they are glamorous - but keep in mind, it's for charities! For the time being, I really need help getting posters and flyers distributed.

So how are things organized for racing, do you get a number for racing and they call you up? Can I race my buddies?

So how are things organized for racing, do you get a number for racing and they call you up? _Can I race my buddies?
It's pretty simple. Line up, and wait your turn. It can take up to 20-30 to make a run sometimes, especially if everyone lines up at teh same time or there are track problems. But if you've been to other tracks in different cities you'd laugh at the 20-30 min. I anticipate you'll get way more than 3 runs which is what you'd expect in a competition or another city.
Racing friends is pretty easy. Seven corrrect me if I'm wrong...
Line up in separate staging lanes, if you get to the front first, let the staging crew know that you want to race a certain car. They'll put you to the side and let car's behind you go until you're both staged.

When you go through tech inspection your car will be given a number... the number is used to keep track of all the cars at the event and the ET's _that they run. _During the V8less event there will probably not be any class separation... for the most part you basically race all day.
If you wanna race your buddies then just ask the track official at the end of the staging lineup. _Point out your buddy and they'll set you guys up to go head to head.
btw, this info is in the "Drag Basics" article on the AsiaNet main page. _anyone new to drag racing will probably find some useful info there.

Just a quick update for those who are interested:
Flyers are making there way through Edmonton now, and are at several locations, too many to name. I'd like to thank Ray (TRD Widebody MR2), Larry (Celica-supra Club, organizer Rising Sun Car Show), David (Luong98, Asianet contributor), Daniel (EG6_SiR, Autotoyz), Crystal (Girlracer_P1, moderator), and David Lee (resident DJ, Climaxx).

We get a tent?!, wicked!.
uhm, you sure that police thing is a good idea?. I know the SOS campaign wanted in on the V8less event, but if that was the case, noone would show!.
Seems the cops are eager to get in on this...

demondragon
What "Turbo" said is true...the cops might start giving out tickets and sheit...on all the modified cars.....!!
I wouldn't go if the cops were there..and I think others would feel the same way too !!

CYA
i highly doubt the cops will give out tickets. a large part of the drag racing (i don't mean the v8less event) is sponsored by the edmonton city police. for them to sponsor drag racing and then to give tickets out to people who participate... they'd never hear the end of it. don't worry about it... go race.
cya

Liroy
Haha you guys are too paranoid. CYA is absolutely right, look at it form a diplomatic perspective. If the cops gave out tickets to cars that came to an event they sponsored to get street racers OFF the street, that would defy the whole purpose of a street legal wouldn't it? They won't give out tickets, and there WILL be police there, after all, they do sponsor it.
Do you think the cops give out tickets to the big Domestic cars for running SLICKS and no exhaust? hehehe think about it, it's only common sense.

Marximus
Don't worry about the cops guys, CYA and Liroy are correct, and in fact you'll be amazed at how friendly the two cops who represent the Police Drag Program are.
CYA, I'm all for you representing Asianet for the big challenge if you interested.
Budpark is really interested in hyping a challenge, maybe we can even get it on the promotion material, I know Budpark will. _
"The Police Drag Car Vrs. _Asianet's Mustang"
Dman too bad your's is a V8. _Let's put a Mazda Sticker on it.
The Police Drag car runs 10's, I suppose you want to go headsup right?

The Police Drag car runs 10's, I suppose you want to go headsup right?
hmmm... if it's not heads up it won't be interesting. it'll be just like the downside of the JB's events. but... heads up i'm risking my tranny. hmmm... but ####, it would be fun! maybe i'll slap some slicks on and go with the more agressive tune? i.e. go for broke? lol. well... just go ahead and plan the event and if i decide to risk it, then like i said... i'll try to earn it.
see you all at the races!
cya

TurboBlueNX
Nono, you misunderstand demondragon, what I meant was, this is an opportunity for the police to "scope" out who is driving what.
A Scouting mission if you will.
IE: "Hey look there Billy-bob, i'nt that there on o' dem imports we saw at Budpark last week?..."
"Yeah, I reckon we should follow 'im and see if he speeds or not"
That's what I mean. I get pulled over enough as it is, not one ticket, but it sure is a hassle...

TurboBlueNX
I grabbed this from one of the Auto-X forums in the US, thought I should share this with you guys who are thinking of racing with a crappy helmet.

The Cobra (SPF) ... lost it in turn 10, impacted tire wall and guard rail. Driver was in fact ejected from car and the car did have him pinned under by his HELMET. When driver was ejected and car came back off tire wall his helmet actually acted as a chock between the fuel cell and ground. Driver
extricated from situation, backboarded, imobilized and transported by ambulance and EMS crew on scene for further evaluation. Driver was checked over with minor complaints, taken to hospital, checked by staff and released. Driver said harness was buckled (?) but he may have hit release
lever when attempting to save car. Car withstood hard impact extremely well.
Now think about how inexpensive of a helmet or any safety equipment do you want to get by with? FYI helmets are impact rated for ONE impact only and after that only make good conversation pieces. DO NOT take a chance on safety equipment. A good helmet did in fact save this gentleman's life.
How much would you spend for a helmet NOW? #

fastest et? _hmmm... somewhere in the 12's with my old motor. when i was learning how to drive on slicks. raced down in calgary after i got the hang of it and pulled 11's.
new motor hasn't been subject to a full pass yet. _but the partial pass i made back a couple months ago pulled a 122 MPH trap speed on Esso gas and radial tires. _
basically that means i should be able to pull about 130 MPH trap speeds with good gas and slicks. _
if you notice the rcmp and police cars pull on average 1-2 mph higher than 122 on race gas and slicks. _
cya
(Edited by CYA at 4:30 pm on Sep. 10, 2001)

Liroy
demondragon, so you haven't seen the blue/green fd3s pull low 12's, or the VR6 rabbit pulls 11's??

demondragon
Nope..were they at the import shootoutz ?? I think the RX7 may have been at the august import shootout..but I was too busy..trying to fix the stupid boost leak in my car.....o wellz...maybe it'll show up on Sept 30 !!! How are the Rabbit..is it coming on Sept 30 ??

Marximus
The people of ProDrag will be going for the fastest ET also.
So expect soem pretty stiff competition out there.

Jack (rx7) blew his engine last import drags... poor guy. But I guess any of us that race it's bound to happen.
I didn't think James (vr6 Rabbit) actually pulled an 11 yet, just low 12's. I could be mistaken, though.
I'm rebuilding my turbo on monday, and hopefully will be attending on the 30th. No wicked 7500rpm launches for me, though. My clutch is just about toast (again). AWD sucks for killing clutches... I'm on #6 in 5 years.
I'd love to see more fast imports out there. Sam, is Kevin going out with his civic? Too hard to determine how many cars will be out. But with Sponsors we will have about 30 in the Exhibit area. Now each sponsor brings their contigent, I would easily expect another 50 cars. So that's 80 without the mass populace. Personally I am aiming for 200+ import/Sport Compacts alone, excluding the musclecars.

KillerRabbit
hey,
I won't be there on the 30th. I have a bar-b-q planned for that day. I haven't had the car out to the track since the first time that it did 12.58@115mph(15 degrees total timing, off nos). I hope to take it out once more, but doubt I will. I know it would clip off a low 11 in the high 120's on nos, and street tires . (After the snow falls, there is a very large transformation happening to the bunny once again. The goal..... 140+mph in the 1/4);)
I heard there is a prelude in calgary that ran mid 12's, good to see they are trying to keep up to us Edmontonians. They definitely have their work cut out for next year, a lot of fast imports planned for Edmonton.
Sam,
I'm really looking forward to seeing your car run, hope I get a chance before the end of the year. 122mph is darn good. I'd like to see it pull 130mph, that should get you a low 10 pass.

Sam, so Kevin's getting a new engine?
Bastard. I'd kill any guy that did that to me. Especially after specifically stating NOT to use the NOS.

James... That was you're VW in Brad the #######'s Shop wasn't it?...
Man, I'd love to see you car pull some serious numbers on the track...
I really want to run on the 30TH, but I'll be so busy volunteering, I dont' want to pay &#3620 just to make one run

Just Curious....since there are lots of cars coming from calgary...how many run's will each car get?? and about how many cars are actually drag racing ??
I', pretty sure ppl wouldn't want to pay &#3620 if they are only getting like 3-4 runs for the whole day.

GirlRacer P1
welcome demondragon (kevin, right?)
Right now, we are not too sure how many runs people will be getting in. It depends on the number of cars that want to race, but in general, 20 dollars is not too bad, and that includes the show and shine, some runs, and your chance at some good prizes.

turbobluenx:
yes, my car was in brads shop for a couple months back in the day, but to no surprise he couldn't manage to get any work done so I took it out.
I was too busy this year with school to take the car out and run some good times, but next year will be different. There are going to be a handfull of fast imports (12 seconds and faster) next year. Hopefully we can see one in the single digits

I cannot promise that you'll get 20 runs, but ask any out of town racers here and they will tell you that 3-4 runs is average for most tracks. That's with back to back line ups (race, line up, race, line up)
