This is WHY you all get pulled over for stupid chit...becuase of other stupid people!!
(but hey...in the end some stolen vehicles were recovered!)

Article in today's SUN

Two badly hurt in high-speed rollover
Two people suffered serious injuries in an apparent street-racing crash on a lonely stretch of road on the city's northeast edge last night.

Witnesses told police two Mustangs - one black, one silver - were roaring north on 149 Street when the black car clipped a traffic median just south of 137 Avenue and shot into the air around 10 p.m.

"Witnesses say the speed of both cars was likely in excess of 150 kmh," said EPS Insp. Shane Loxterkamp.

"It appears the black car failed to negotiate a meridian, went airborne and hit the street, where it rolled several times."

The black car, which was completely wrecked in the crash, toppled a light standard before grinding to a stop. Emergency crews laboured for half an hour to remove the occupants, both males in their 20s.

One of the occupants, believed to have been the passenger, was taken to the U of A hospital in what was said to be "unstable" condition.

The silver Mustang fled the scene with a flat tire. Police said they caught up with it and its two occupants - both young women - at the Cineplex Odeon at St. Albert Trail and 137 Avenue between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

"One of the girls admitted to being the driver," said Sgt. Blair Edl.

Meanwhile, three St. Albert teens face charges after a spate of early morning car thefts sparked a high-speed chase into Edmonton and back to the suburb Sunday.

Brenden Randall Rothweiler, 19, of St. Albert, faces numerous charges, including two counts of car theft and four counts of possession of stolen property.

Matthew Scott Tribble, 18, of St. Albert faces three counts of possession of stolen property. A 17-year-old youth faces one count of possession of stolen property.

Heard about it on the news this morning, made me kinda chuckle for some reason. :dunno:

midnite
:(

Yep thats just going to make the police crack down harder on everyone that has a modified vehicle.

crazyrx7
Just goes to prove that mustangs just can't handle. As long as there is a straight line you should be okay.

R.K.

Transporter
FROM my understanding it was straight line and he hit the meridan and took out a light fixture

Fire'N'Ice
sounds like he was swerving...not realizing meridian RIGHT there...

swerving does not = straight line

Mekanik22
Those 2 mustangs were stolen by 17, 18, and 19 year old kids....

You need to learn to read. Those are two different events....

Two males in their 20's were driving the black Mustang, and two young women were driving the silver Mustang.

Then in another unrelated incident, 3 guys aged 17, 18, and 19 stole a vehicle that led to a high speed car chase.

scooby_dooby
I don't know about you guys, but the cops have compeltely fucked off and leave me alone entirely now. For the last year and a half it's been wicked, none of this nazi muffler crackdown they were on before.

I haven't had a muffler or tint ticket in like 18 months, that's insane! Before I would be lucky to make it 6 weeks.

I'm glad it was mustangs, gotta get away from the asian car = street racer stereotype.

Maybe because it has been domestic/muscle car owners that have been killing people when racing and not import/sport compact owners.

Maybe. Seemed to coincide with teh major police embaressment over the stalking of the edmonton sun journalist, and the subsequent firing of the police chief.

Seems like, after that, the cops kinda got their heads screwed back on straight.

*steps onto soap box*

- Its awful that people are hurt. I don’t care what they where driving. Yes I know its there fault but lets hope they live to learn from their lesson.

- The reason why allot of import people have been "picked" on by police is because in the last little while it seems that (well to me) that in the news there has been allot more import related incidents.

- Saying that it was domestics that crashed and hopefully the police will stop bugging you guys are garbage. They will come down hard on everyone

- Just goes to prove that mustangs just can't handle. As long as there is a straight line you should be okay.
Please do some research, mustang can handle when made to do so. Actually this year there are 2 mustang in the top 3 for Solo I this year in Calgary. That is competing against z06 corvettes, 911’s, M3. RX7's

They said on the news that the driver of the black stang that crashed was a 44/M and the passenger was a 36/M. And the female driver in the other one was impaired.

That Mustang looked awfully stock to me.
:p

Honestly though, I would love it if the police harassed me more. Humans have a tendacy to push the limits. People will cross the line everytime if there is no enforcement (see: Whyte Ave, the accident last night.)

I don't believe that having a modified car should be the reason I am being pulled over though. I would hope that I would be as likely to be pulled over in a truck as I would in my car.

Way to go with that accuracy thing the Sun.

That same information about the drivers being in their 40's was on Global news as well.

Another thing of note: It's not just everyone under 25 that is a crazy streetracer.

me and david drove by after the accident....wow...that mustang was toast....and the roads were covered in dirt....

There are also more sheriffs in town freeing up EPS. They're traffic law inforcers, they had a big crackdown on the qe2 yesterday where they were pulling people over for speeding, tinted glass, exaust, you name it they were doing it. There were 4 different posts where they were hitting up drivers. There's more of them on the highway and there's more of them in the city. You can tell them apart from the EPS because they wear the RCMP style hats.

edmCRX
I might be to blunt here for some people on this board, but I'm happy they crashed.

tough, they wanna fuck around on the streets, risk other peoples lives and not take it to the track like proper adults then they deserve what they got.

I hope the driver of the black mustang suffers for the rest of his life knowing he indefinately put his 'friend' in a wheelchair for good by trying to show up a few chicks in a silver mustang

I saw one during lunch here downtown just standing around..I was like WTF-since when does Canada have Sheriffs? (sheriff badge on sleeve) thought it was mainly a US thing...

And you never messed around on the street with your buddies EVER too right?

And you never went over the speed limit, because if you did you deserve to crash and die because you put others in harms way when you sped.

Do you even read what you type?

as a matter of fact I never have gone 'fast' aka raced on the street buddy, thanks for bringing it up. I was in a serious not-at-fault accident when I was 15 with a learners so I learned the raw power of vehicular crashes right off the get-go. I have no tickets, never been pulled over, never EXCESSIVLEY sped (maybe 20-over on the freeway) but that's it.

and who the fuck are you to justify what those people did? the 2 couples involved weren't kids, they were 20+ adults. It might be a bit more justifiable if they were just 16 with a fresh license but they weren't. If they haven't learnt by now that the streets are meant for travel and not racing, well then you need something like a nice wreck and a few broken vertebrae to beat it into you.

tough, anyone that decides to endanger themselves and others deserves to get fucked up like that. it's your choice, your life, go ahead and mess around.. look what happens.

lesson learned.

The Alberta Sheriff's are the new look for the Court and Prisoner Service (CAPS). Hopefully, they'll be taking over the whole province from the RCMP by 2009. Like a Provinical Police force (like Ontario and Quebec have).

I've never seen them wear Stetsons though. EPS traffic cops wear Stetsons now, but I've never seen Sheriffs wear them.

thats a pretty decent road to rip down. Wavy road but its only 1 lane each way plus a turning lane.

supeg
Well of course you never raced you own a CRX.... :D

Who Justified it?

I think they are morons for racing 150+ on city streets.

I just said saying they deserve it is harsh.

20 over on a freeway is against the law and you are indangering lives when you do it as well, pot calling the kettle black is how I see it.

Using the sprit of wishing harm on others, i hope a family member of the guy's reads this, finds you and gives you a good beating, as you deserve one, as hoping someone death or paralysis for a mistake is pretty sick.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL that was in europe you douche bag.
omg roooooflz0rzrzrzrzZzZzzzzzz

edmCRX
the more I think about the more I realize you are a retard.
seriously, you worked so hard to find that and still it has little relevance to racing 150+ on 60km/hr roads that aren't built for speed.

take a break and realize you are a silly wanka.

MOP_zero

Not THAT hard to find. I find it interesting that you think those speeds are safe in Europe, but are not in Canada.

The laws of Physics do not change because the Laws of a Country do.

supeg
Yep, here comes the backpeddaling.

Let me guess, it was on the Autobaun right?

Lol, You got owned, just admit it and go on with your life.

edmCRX
it was on the A 35 in saxony.

sure the laws of physics don't change, but if there ever was a right place to go fast in public, that's the right spot. comparing my instance to the latest edmonton wreck is apples and oranges. we weren't racing anyone, we weren't intoxicated, it was done on a stretch where the 130km/hr limit was inactive, and it was done at a time with no traffic. yes it was speeding, we took the risk, it's said and done.

honestly get over it, dick.

Rich_A
fuck it.

with action comes consequence.

don't fuck it up with someone in the vehicle with you, and don't fuck up anyone else period if you want to go faster.

other than that being said... fair game.

edmCRX I don't think anyone here wants to give 2 bits or could spare 2 shits how "perfect" your driving record is.

some of us like speed, some of us get thrills behind the wheel.

anyone who does it without endangering others directly - i say good for you. do 250+ on an open highway, rip up the open space. you know the dangers to yourself so go hard and just try not to end up on the news ... or 780 will make up stories and cause drama over your death

;)
