I just love it when someone gets 1 yr for murder...they let him out then put a warning out to the public he is still considered a high-risk offender! Where is the logic in our judicial system???

Police issue warning for high-risk offender
He did nearly 500 days in the big house, and now the Edmonton Police Service is warning that Anthony Littlebear Desmoulin is out.

Desmoulin spent 488 days at Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre for manslaughter, causing a disturbance, two counts of failing to appear, being intoxicated in a public place and assaulting a peace officer.

"One of the things that disturbs us most is Desmoulin's lack of remorse, shame, in an incident like this," said Det. Wil Tonowski of the Edmonton Police Service high-risk offender unit.

The 23-year-old Desmoulin was released from jail Saturday.

"His behaviour in the institution was poor," said Tonowski, adding Desmoulin was fighting, not following the rules and not receiving any treatment for anger and violence.

Desmoulin also plans to be in court June 19 to fight a Section 810 order that would require him to report to police on a regular basis.

Desmoulin's record includes raps for assaulting a peace officer, break and enter, theft, and resisting a peace officer.

But it was his behaviour on June 7, 2004, at the Stanley Milner Library that landed Desmoulin in serious hot water.

His trial heard Desmoulin was begging for money that day and approached Mustafa Mohammad, then 30.

Court heard Mohammad told Desmoulin to "f--k off" - and fists started flying.

While Mohammad bent over to pick up his keys, Desmoulin - wearing steel-toed work boots - kicked him in the head.

Mohammad flew back and cracked his skull on the pavement. He was taken to hospital in a coma; on June 18, 2004, he was taken off life-support and declared dead.

Tonowski warns the public to stay away from Desmoulin.

Desmoulin is about five-foot-10, 160 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, a moustache and a beard. He has a scar on his right wrist, a tattoo of a spider web on his right wrist, and a tattoo of a cross on his left arm.

<note to self...reminder why I don't like reading the paper! :mad: >

So instead of keeping him in prison, they just tell us to stay away from him? Ok.

Ask the Liberals. remember criminals have more rights then you! Why put them in jails when you can just release them out into the public, its cheaper and who cares about the crimes they will commit again.

like i totaly understand cutting down jail time because the indviual was well behaved ..in prison.. but they clearly indicate he was the bad guy in prison yet still he is out.... like where is the sense in that .. so if i tell a pan handles no .. i should hope not to get killed ..i sure feel safe walking around downtown.. they should put name badges on these guys so when u see the name you can cross the street so u don't offend the guy when u reject his pan handling offer.

like it really makes me wonder, why??

I heard that on a stream of Ched yesterday... I was wondering what crack whomever let him out was smoking...

Not that I'm in any way condoning what this guy did, or insinuating that the dead guy got what he deserved or anything (nobody deserves to die because they said something to the wrong person), but:

I don't see why the dead guy had to tell the panhandler to F__K Off. A simple "No, sorry" would have sufficed. Panhandlers have always been polite to me, so I've always been polite to them, in return.

There's been sooooooooo many cases (road rage, that bus rider, young guys outside bars, and now this panhandler) where somebody ended up dead because somebody said something rude to someone else. In this world, you just never know when the other person is carrying a knife, or is a black belt, or has a gun, or is ready to kick you in the head with steel-toed boots.

Let's be careful out there, people. The risk for PERMANENT damage is just not worth a rude comment or the finger.

ok fair enough...I "semi" agree
BUT...being downtown everyday we get hit up by many bums asking for $$ or cigs...we even watch them grab the cig butts from the ashtray (ick!) whatver...but why do we have to apologize for not giving them money?? That's the point I don't get..."yeah sorry, I get up every day to work just so I have spare change for you, but today I spent it on that coffee"
Come around my office tower...we get all the rowdies-very few of them are polite...thing is NOT to make eye contact.

But yeah...instigating them isn't advised either.

Still, I've never told a single person to fuck off, I mean what kinda person is that much of an asshole anyways?

With that said, we don't know what this dickhead(Desmoulin) was saying, he probably provoked the guy, he doesn't sounds like real winner.

less than 2 years is a joke for taking another mans life, I don't care if it was just a boot to the head. 5 years minimum, and MAYBE you'll learn some remorse then. If not, back to the fuckin hole for another 5.

btw - i'm a pretty liberal minded guy, i don't know what being a liberal has to do with any of this. Just remember, peoples opinions aren't always black and white, i think you'd be hard pressed to find ANY person, liberal or otherwise that thought this was a good example of 'justice'.

While I do agree, how do you know that the guy wasn't constantly hassling him? I work downtown and I'm asked a dozen times a day for change. Usually I politely say sorry and occasionally I'll throw someone some change if I have it. I have seen some really aggressive panhandlers though that could cause problems.

On one occasion I actually told one to fuck off, but that was right after I was run off the road in my Z and the guy came up asking me for change. I was polite the first time, but then he came back and wouldn't stop hassling me. My car had just been destroyed and I wasn't exactly in a great mood. It's tough to make a judgement on this situation without knowing the whole story and the state of mind for all people involved.
