MR2 in winter? - Click HERE for Original Thread

SilverFire
Hi everyone,

I'm seriously thinking about trying to find an MR2 for a daily driver while I'm working on my RX-7. This is going to be a VERY EXTENDED project, so I'm wondering how they do on winter roads. I like the small size compared to my rex, especially in winter, not to menton the fuel mileage, but I noticed one guy looking for a winter driver, so I had to ask.

I'm not parking the 7 until NEXT spring, so I'm just keeping my eyes peeled for an amazing deal or something that needs some minor work right now.

Which brings me to my next question, how much would I be looking at for a respectable 88-89? NA or SC? NA would be plenty good enough for a daily driver, but the SC would be more fun...

Thanks!

Ben

It's just like any car. Put some good winter tires on it, and don't drive stupid. You'll be fine.

Exactly.

My winter beater is a 86 NA, and it is fun as shit to drive in the winter!

The car was even pulling cars that were stuck in the snow out, ask RDS_Celica hahha.

But yea, never got stuck with it in the deep snow, and it was fun drifting around, it has better balance than the MKII's.

Yea so I would say go for a older mr2 with good tires, and you will be set.

I took my MR2 through the winter and I had no problem at all. Just make sure to get some decent winter tires and have some fun drifting around every corner :p

Only got stuck once...when the snow was nearly up to my bumper in my neighbourhood.

I drove my car for 3 months this past winter, it had cheap winter tires and it was fine.... I never even lost control once, just dont drive like an asshole and youll be fine.

Thanks everyone!

That puts my mind at ease a whole lot! Now, can anyone give me an idea what kind fo price range I should be looking at for a decent one? I did a quick search, and only came up with one SC for $5200. For that price on a car that age, I'm betting it'd be a good one, but MR2s aren't exactly a belly-button car, so that might not be true.

Hey Bud,

Would you have a link to that $5200 SC? In case you don't want to go for it yourself.

Thanks,

Heeter

Nope. It was on Buysell.com, but I cna't find it now. It must be gone...

I'm not after ANYTHING until at least winter. I can't afford it yet.
