wondering if you guys could help me - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hello I was doing some research on rx7's and came across you guys. I found an 89 rx7 that has been stored for a few years with a blown engine in a guys garage. The body is in excelent shape, had an audo body guy look at it. I can pick up the car for $500 bucks buddy just wants to get it out of his garage. Now I was wondering what engine swaps you could do with this car as I don't know a bunch about rotory engine's. I do understand that the car is light, and you don't want to screw up the balance thus mucking up the car's handling. I was thinking a GM Vortec 4.3 out of a blazer, That would give the car about 190h. Any suggestions would be most helpful before I start the project.

Thanks in advance

Murray

im thinking this is a na car..a non turbo...what u could do is order a jdm turbo engine and do the swap...way better the v8 swap..

A jdm turbo engine, what is it and where can I get one.

Mobius
A japanese spec turbo rotary engine. Talk to Conroy or Richard at www.4kruzn.com.

now
I have a couple jdm engines but like any jdm (in my opinion )
its always best to do a rebuild on them before running them.

OK so will a jdm turbo motor fit in a not turbo rx7 will the engin mounts be the same. What else would I have have to change. Like I said I wouldn't even bother with this car but the rest of the car is in such good shape that I can't just let it sit there.

Again thanks for the help

Murray

now
lowest cost thing to do is to check and see whats wrong
with it, if it needs a motor pull the one thats in it and bring it
down for an econo rebuild.
is the car up in your city?

Ya the car is here in Grande Cache. The only thing that seems to be wrong with it is the engine. Any minor stuff I can take care of. I am not sure how much HP a rotory engine has and really I have never driven an rx7 at all. I just love the look of them. So I would like the car to have some pump to it as it will be my summer fun car. I will also be looking at adding a body kit and other crap later on.

the 13b Turbocharged twin-rotor engine is good for around 200 horse STOCK. (with around the same torque)

I've seen a smallblock v8 in a rx7 in edmonton one time. i imagine it would haul ass, but the extra weight in the front would probably make the car ride like shit
