That doesn't make sense, how can a car win best of show but then not win it's class? |

as for attention, my point was that how does a car that recieved little attention compared to the car that came easily top 4 or 5 at the entire show get pretty much just an honorable mention for basicly second place toyota. the import scene has few cars that makes everyones top lists. supra, skyline, nsx, etc. so when one of these very rare cars come to a show like this only to get run over by an economy daily driver? i dunno just my opinion i think it deserved more then an honorable mention =D this is all i will say on this topic because its not gunna change anyones mind on the matter
Are you fucking kidding me. Since when are there extra "status" points handed out to skylines, supras and nsx's at a car show? Like I said before... the cars are judged on mods... not OMG, its a TT Supra or RHD Skyline. You make it sound like the only cars that should win shit are status cars. Lame buddy... lame.
If your hood was shut your "engine" category doesnt get judged.
If your windows are up and door shut, guess fuckin what? Yup, your interior isnt getting judged either.
The Supra was shut up all day long. And I dont remember seeing a mod list anywhere. What do you expect?
Markis, dont even try to justify the awards and judging to someone like this
EDIT: and just like Markis pointed out WTF does attention have to do with awards... my car gets shit for attention at shows... everyone flocks to the ricers. |

it's like saying that karbz didn't deserve the best acura/honda award and instead giving it to the near stock black nsx in Garage works booth cause it's rarer then a 1.6el...
92_WhItE_H23: i do however agree with you on the prelude issue... that black one did not deserve to win best prelude...
i never disagreed with the prelude one.. my car in my opinion didnt deserve any awards..the car wasnt really in top show condition the front bumper was in rough shape. the only thing my car had compared to the others was the supercharger setup and the custom stereo in the trunk both of which i never really showed..i was there simply to support a friends shop not to win awards =D
i have a funny feeling that the supra would have lost even if he had a steering wheel and some racing seats. because other then that there wasnt anything else that could be done to that car.. and what was done to the supra was ALOT More then the celica had. as well , i never seen the celica hood up at all through out the show..every time i passed it throughout the day just the doors were open and the hood down. |

Great question. It gets asked often. We basically try to spread it out to recognize people. If you win best of show, we take away your best of class. Not everybody likes this rule.
Good constructive feedback, we don't mind criticism, I know we can't make everyone happy, but as long as you're constructive we'll do our best to improve.
How does the show compare to last years?
You can also PM also. |

i agree with this atleast... it would be even worse to have one car win all the titles.. makes everyone else who puts so much time money and effort into the show get a kick in the nuts to watch one person take all the awards.. |

Well being from Newfoundland and not having been to many good import shows or being around cars like these I have to say I really enjoyed the show.
Some great cars, some nice models. Well laid out and a nice variety. I had a good time. |

Werd.
People need to realize that "Best JDM" is about modding a car to be JDM style, as in, the "JDM" look - clean, subtle, yet jaw-dropping hawtness.

I applaud mark and all the others who made this show a success. It takes a big sac to man up an organize a show and make it become something rather than just talk about it. Especially when you know it will be openly critised by many.
I saw a lot of variety of cars and thought it was a good show, it's just going to grow and you are going to see more and more cars come...you honestly think powerama started off as three and four halls? Come on...be real.
As for judging, no one will ever be happy, it's just the way she goes. Just need to learn to not take it personal, if you know you car was better than so be it, I got flat out buttjacked at Powerama, it was a gong show to start and I can tell you Mark's show was a HELL OF A LOT more organized and easier going than Powerama...If I were Liz from Powerama I would be calling up Mark and begging him for some help before she ruins that show for life....blah that women sucks.
Anyways, all said and done I had a good time and id go back. To those who say the cars were "okay" build a better one and bring it next year...put your money where your mouth is.
PS. I too caught some little turds in my vehicle trying to steal stuff...I couldn't believe my eyes, that kid is lucky I didn't drag his ass to security...but I figured when I started screaming at him and he looked as if he literally shit his pants that was enough....it's the kids parents I should beat...uggg.. |

i rember there being a BEST JDM
and then a BEST JDM Conversion
if they never had it they should add it
so they have the best JDM car that was actualy from Japan, and then have the BEST usdm CONVERSION TO JDM, such as the civic, or when people convert a 240 S14 to a full Silvia S14 JDM spec right?
that what htey should do |

Wow, thats a lot of comments to read. Overall I think these shows are pretty good and will get even better with time.
The Calgary show seemed better to me as there were three times the cars and models, which was sweet. Also seemed like there was more variety down in Calgary - something to work on.
My one issue, as with some others here is the judging and this was the case both here and in Calgary. I would complain in detail, but honestly I dont understand it enough to feel right doing so - and since I dont know how it all works, I dont know how to improve it - so, since the offer was put out there, I would seriously be interested in judging since im always at these shows anyways (I figure I will give it one more year, and then im done with even bothering to enter these shows because of my judging issues)
What I will say is that there were a few categories where I didn't understand the winner at all. (and I will leave it at that)
One thing is that when a car is able to draw big or constant crowds of people it must mean something is done right (or horribly wrong I guess - but more often right) if everyone just walks right by your car at a car show , then there must not be that much to show? Now there is no way to quantify crowds of people, which is why I though the "text your vote" thing was pretty cool since it would allow popular cars to gain votes (assuming it was working and all that good stuff). Of course that could be abused but, still, its a good idea. |

Although I didn't get to spend a ton of time at the show I think it was a step in the right direction over 2005. There were a lot more people putting their time and effort into their show setups. More elaborate lighting, more vendors, etc. Overall I think the shows are improving.
I can't wait to see the show spill into a second hall with more old school stuff next year. Hopefully I'll actually have something worthwhile to enter as well. |

Blaine, i'm going to presume that was james stupid fast rabbit there, and a white talon. Neither with their hoods open. Rabbits are not the prettiest cars, and if its on the way to becoming the fastest import in western canada or w/e, you could have atleast opened the hood. Same with the talon, it had lambo doors, rims, and big brakes in the front. Interior was stock, hood was closed. I dont get it :(
I am not talking about any of the cars that are in my booth whatsoever. I was pleasantly suprised that James got recognition for all the hard work he has invested into his Rabbit. (He won best performance engine).
The Rabbit had the hood open the ENTIRE day, at least until 9:45 when we closed and locked up all the cars to attend the awards presentation.
The supercharged Viper was not even entered for judging and neither was the Talon. |

That blue rx-7 was absolutely insane, one off motor....Full interior, fiberglass enclosure in the rear....just a complete beautiful car.

You wanna know how Rad's car beat out that thing? It won because his car is overall alot cleaner and smoother looking. No big gawdy sideskirts, no giant gawdy chrome wheels, no vinyl and so on. sure buddy in the other FD has a t70 or 78. Rad has a GT35R. They are both large turbos, yes one is bigger then the other. You can always throw a shit load of money at something and still have it come out looking like ass. Just remember that.
Also on a side note: Buddy with the Blue FD needs to change his setup. He's had that "look" for a few years now. Times change and if you wanna win you have to change with it. |

That would be my one suggestion for next year.... I would love to know when it's "okay" to close the car up. That would have kept the creeps out of my vehicle and alot of the details in my paint dont show up until the hood is closed as well as the doors. |

And that's the primary reason why I said you can't take judging personally, you think the wheels look gawdy...and I loved em. It all breaks down to a personal preferance, both cars were gorgeous, I just enjoyed the blue one more that's all. That blue car also had one of only two engines in Canada or something like that, it hadn't even been started yet...I dunno, I am not huge into the import scene but I most definately appriciate the work that goes into most of them. |

Well like I said I am not really up on the whole import scene, just sort of getting into it since I am a truck/domestic guy. Anyways I was talking to the owner and he had the block built by Eubini? Or something like that? I dunno...you could read however it was spelt on the block but I can't remember what happened 5 minutes ago, let alone the spelling of the engine builder haha.
As for being a judge, you got that right, shiettt....there were so many vehicles that deserved trophies...you will never please everyone, it's absolulety impossible. |

as for the judging...that just make other ppl in the same catagory step up their game for next year! change the looks...make it different! make it Unique something no one has...dont stick with the same setup all year...change a bit if u had to...electronics....BPU's...i mean u cant just change paint every year thats expensive...but wheels...engine components...that stuff....and make it more for the viewers to be amazed!
and another thing...if u have numbers on ur cars! 1/4 mile..dyno...prove it...show some paper! wat u have done to the car...show it on paper.....i've seen that done in vancouver and calgary...helps out alot! for ppl who dont know wat u got done it saves them from asking and wondering... |

I'd like to add to your comment there Kevin. I can vouche that it is not one of 2 engines in Canada with that motor or that big of turbo. I personally was driving around in a T78 440whp on low boost rx7 today. And its pretty hard to do a one off motor for an rx7.
And for the record. i have seen buddy driving around in that blue FD. |

Well I am not going to argue because I know jack about RX-7's, Turbo's etc..etc.. haha . But how can you vouch that it's not one of two when you and I both don't know exactly what was under the hood of that car?
I am just going off what he told me, from what I understood he had just finished the install of the motor a week or so before the show.
As for the asian kids in the fiat, probably the same little turds I caught in my vehicle...I physically WATCHED this kid take part of my display, as he was walking away with it I asked him what the f$ck he thought he was doing....he told ME to calm down hahaha..... |

| We experimented with a text messaging voting system for People's Choice. We will promote it better in the future - but guess who the winner was? - The Fiat, who also won Best Exotic but was not awarded at the ceremony because we lost his name. |

I think he deserved to win, that car was a head turner, it was the first thing I noticed when I was walking around after setup on Friday. |

I always thought the point of a car show was to show the patrons the entire car for the entire day. Get them to ask questions about the cars and build interest in the scene in general. How are they going to gain any real knowledge or insight into the effort and overall coolness of a car if it is completely closed up, save for 5 minutes of judging?
I was responsible for the Supercharged Viper, the Rabbit and the Talon. It was my pleasure to answer any questions anybody had, and I even offered for the little kids (who's eyes light up when they see something that they deem cool) to sit in the Viper and get pictures or just simply enjoy sitting in what they think is a cool car.
Hopefully they will turn into the next crop of automotive enthusiasts, who knows. |

I think that's up to the owners of the individual cars to decide, not you.
The subject of this debate/argument seemed to be on the judging aspect. And a valid explanation was attempted for how/why some vehicles got their points, even though casual observers may not have caught the opportunity. There's no way anyone in this thread could have been simultaneously watching ALL the cars while they were actually being judged (or kept track of all the judges and what they were doing or looking at).
And as far as public interest for the "patrons" go, there's no reason why spectators at the show that were interested in particular cars couldn't have gone up and ASKED an owner of the car if they could see under the hood or in the interior, or whatever. Fellow enthusiasts should KNOW this is always an option. :dunno: |

As a vendor, I would like to drop a line and give props to Jeff and Mark for all there hard work. I think the show was a fantastic success! The quality of vehicles and displays at this years show was significantly improved from years past. I am a little disappointed with all of the negative comments on the judging however. I would suggest to Mark that these people who are so upset with the results may want to offer their time and expertise next year to "get it right".
I am already looking forward to the 2007 version of Driven to Perform!

i will second Todd's Comment!! We're all here to improve the scene and improve the show!
To Mark and Jeff! for setting up and trying to Improve the scene as much as they can! We as Vendors/exhibitors/shops/customers are here to Help! as we do feel that edmonton needs some spicen up! hahaha well...i guess Mark and Jeff already know wat i have to say!
but the feedback is very good! because it helps us for next year! there are no negative comments here...just try and keep the car bashing to a "ZERO" and keep it to yourselves! all we need is feedback thanks!! |

| Allright, my suggestion for next year is when you register your vehicle you are given a tazer.....that way any kid who wants to rub his prints all over your car you can just give him a quick zap  |

Okay okay....how bout just the BAD kids? No? (When I said kids I more meant the 15-17 year old punks rocking the g-unit thinking they were hard)
How bout just the adults that touch vehicles? haha...
I forgot to tell that story, some guy just walks up and pulls my notch/bridge cover up and starts explaining to his friend how it works...he then sets it down in the wrong place leaving a scratch down the side of the cover all the while I am giving him the death glare, he just pretended nothing happened and kept on walking haha....
Note to self...next year I am getting rope and poles.
Anyways, like I said, aside from a couple odd judging issues (that Mark and I talked about...and he made fun of me about haha....j.k mark) I think the show is just going to get better every year, I am allready looking forward to it! |

Did they have mod lists? Were they clean? No dirt what so ever? Did they have doors/windows open to have their interior judged? Hood poped?
If they didnt have one of those then they wont win shit.
how do you "pope" a hood? is the church involved at all? either way... the trophies are just for show, its no big deal who wins them. the point is to spend all day ogling cars and girls  |

This chevy 2 won best of show I do believe (not best of the show performance)
That car was SOOOOOOO clean, fully detailed engine bay, stereo, full seude interior.....fully detailed undercarraige....wow just wow.
And the two cars behind this one (skyline and airbagged truck) The skyline won best skyline and the Truck won best lowrider.
PS. Don't compare the Karbz show car to the E-Z Happy Meal car, Karbz actually built that car...they didn't pay someone to build it, plus that car was well built.....insane air brushing all throughout the car, full glass etc..etc..
