Questions from a potential owner... - Click HERE for Original Thread

Lookinh very seriously into buying an MKII MR2. I had a couple questons though before I started to hunt for one.

I was intedning on buying a JDM MR2 becasue from what I've seen they usually have lower KMs and they also have to pass an OOP inspection before being sold so it might garuntee better shape. I was recently told that JDM cars tend to have a lot of problems, is this true or are they about the same as buying any USDM car?

Second question was headroom. I'm 6" 2' and was wondering if there would be a problem fitting into the seats of the MKII? And if there is a problem would racing seats increase headroom?

Third question is about JDM cars in general. How is adjusting to driving on the RH side? Anything extremely difficult to get used to or are there any major concerns with it?

Thanks for all your help.

Lots of room in the mr2, im 6'1 and no problems, with my bride super low seat and rail Im sitting even lower. Just depends on how you sit in your car. As for jdm cars personally i think alot of them are POS's more so than usdm cars. At least with a local car you can inspect it to see what it needs. With japanese cars everything always seems to be wrong with them and they nickel and dime you to death. I have yet to see a mint beautiful mr2 come out of Japan. All of them have faded paint, leak oil, have torn up interiors, mismatched rims, stripped stereos etc etc. As for driving rhd you do get used to it but I just dont like shifting that way I felt like a was trying to write with my left hand.

First of all, sorry for all the JDM owners but im just going to say it... most JDMs are bagged to fuck haha. I have yet to see an immaculant JDM mr2 but I would like someone to suprise me. Ive seen one that is just about mint inside and out but his headgasket blew and clutch went within a couple weeks of having the car. Lower KMs does not nessecarily mean the car is in good shape. 90,000KM in japan is all stop and go driving and if the car comes with extras (boost controller, Piggyback ECUs, etc.) then you can be assured it was driven hard at one point...

If you are looking for a solid project then I would say go for JDM all the way. You can get into the cars for cheaper (5-9g usually) and spend the extra cash replacing/upgrading the places that need attention. Just be prepared for something to go wrong and dont be suprised if it does.

Driving RHD is pretty easy to get used to. I found the hardest part was the windsheild wipers and signals are reversed so I would always hit the wipers when canceling the signal. Other than that its not very dramatic.

Im 6'3" and I fit into mine comfortably. I have a problem with driving RHDs tho because my legs are long and I hit the steering wheel when Im pressing the clutch and if I try to go at an angle (like I do on my LHD car) I hit the side of the ebrake. Just kind of a pain.
