Plate covers - Click HERE for Original Thread

neverunderstood
I was told the photo radar plates you can get at jb's could get your car impounded?

The covers, it depends on the cop, when I got pulled over mine was a clear cover I haddn't taken the protective blue coating off of. I had tools and took it off right there, and I got to keep it, but if it's one of those that stop photo radar, expect a harder time. If you use one of those things from JB's that stick to your plate, just over the numbers, expect your car to be impounded and plate seized (AKA bring another one when you go to get your car)

this true?

stybscelica
Yes, at the very least it will get you a ticket, and if your really lucky they may impound your car. They can Actually inpound for any equipment violation and do a Vehicle inspection on it and give you a whole mitt full of Coupons.

Cheers:beer:

this common?

mwdguy
yup

neverunderstood
what about the tinted plate covers are they more safe then the jb's ones?

stybscelica
there worse as you can see them easier when you are following behind. Your best option DON't speed. Edmonton Police Service Posts on their Website where the phot radar locations are as required by hte provincial guidlines, But remember these are Only guidelines.

You can actually receive a ticket for having an obstructed license plate because the tinting of the cover actually changes the identifying characteristics of the white Alberta license plate. Please refer to the Operator Licensing & Vehicle Control Regulations - Section 71 for the definition. This is where the police are allowed to ticket you if you fail to clear snow from the plate etc. There's also a requirement under the: Traffic Safety Act - Section 65(1) which requires all equipment on a motor vehicle to be in good working condition as prescribed by the Act & its Regulations.

Here here, from the man himself.

I used to run a clear plastic bag over mine, the ones you get you plate in, cept I taped it up all nicely.I got stopped once, the cop asked what was with the bag and said "you know it doesn't work against photo radar", I said, "yup I know, it's just there to keep it clean" I asked if they wanted me to remove, they said nope, another time, they ripped it off before they even got to the window, I just explained how I knew ppl who had gotten tickets for the plate weathering and getting all cracked and such, they told me just get a new plate if that happens.

With what Jimbo said about the snow, I thought they could do that for a dirty plate too? I've been pestered about that, and once about the snow, I got out of the snow one caus eI explained how I just got off the highway...

But yeah, can't have nothing on the surface of your plate, some dealer rings actually block too much of the plate and can be illegal.

why would you want one on there anyways ... when i bought my truck i told them dont bother putting a sticker on. So when I went in to pick it up they had a ring on it, and i figured they would have so i had a screwdriver with me already ... and took it off with the salesman and the dealer owner standing right there ... they asked my why i did that.

Which I replied

"I just paid 60 thousand dollars for this truck like fuck I am going to advertose for you for free"

I got my car(already had the decals on) when home and took them all off. I kept the plate ring for a bit(til they paid me my $50 for refering somebody there.

The wife won't let me take her decals off, I completely de-badged my car, my neon anyhow.. I think I'm gonna yank the dealer decals off her car, even if she doesn't like it, they've shafted my family on the service side.

Some cars, some sorta plate ring looks good and other like mine(fifth ave), they would look out of place.

I have the honda cover on mine and it has dirt which is stuck permanently on there. I just wash around it. Never had a photo radar.
