Q: demerit carrying tickets... - Click HERE for Original Thread

r0meo
do they show up on your abstract instantly, or after you have been conviceted/plead guilty?

n0c7
Can't say for sure, but logically they shouldnt show up unless you have actually been found/plead guilty of the offense.

Vive le Quebec
yup, definately not instantaneous. once they've been processed by the court, i.e. paid, or guilty verdict, then it goes on your record.

mwdguy
better get that abstract now ....

Yes they are on there from the conviction date (i.e. fine paid or judge ruling) and stay on for 3 years from that date.

Bzzzt. Wrong. Two years. Insurance companies can look back three years, but your license only carries demerits for two.

Second-last bullet at http://www.infratrans.gov.ab.ca/INF...n/dhpage146.htm

Mine stayed on my abstract for 3 years from the conviction date. I've been told that if the insurance finds out they keep it on file for up to 7 years but i'm not sure if that is true.

but yea, i guess that answers my question, thx guys

Vive le Quebec
i hate doing this, but i actually have to agree with mx5_guy...

as per the link he posted:
"When two years have elapsed from the date of a conviction, the number of points assessed for that conviction are removed from your record. Remember, the date of conviction is the date that you actually pay your fine or are found guilty in absence, not the date that you received the fine."

TWO years.

TRUE ... but they stay on your ABSTRACT for 3 regardless if they carry demerits anymore

MX5 Miata Guy
Again, I reiterate, the TICKET stays visible for THREE years (searchable on your driving record), however, the actual demerits from the offence stay on your record for only TWO years. Read the legislation...it's right there on the internet under the provincial government as well as in the current Driver's Handbook, available online and at any licensing office.

Vive le Quebec
you can still get driver's abstracts that go back as far as 10 years...so technically...

Remember folks ... really the only thing that demerit points do is give Motor Vehicle Branch a way of tracking your driving habits. 15 demerit points accumulated within a 2 year span & BAMMO ... 30 day license suspension (however - let's not forget GDL licenses where 8 demerit points means suspension). As far as insurance companies - they have their own rules.

Jimbo:dunno:

Hate to say it folks but this topic is getting a little bit old ...
