Wow... Okay thanks for that..
It's that my truck won't pass OOP.. but I might have found a way around that.. Don't tell them it's from BC? Or I don't know where it's from I bought it here in Alberta...
I dunno, what are my options here? |

:smack: that should be a smack upside your head!
Scenario: you say you bought truck here-where's your bill of sale? As well, a quick VIN check will show it hasn't been registered in AB
Option: get truck up to snuff to pass
I'd hate to see someone get screwed over royally if they were in an accident with you and you didn't have valid insurance...
And when you do get caught, good luck finding insurance again... |

| If I could afford too I would, I plan on fixing the truck just going to take some time, and untill then I need some way to get too and from work.. so I am stuck to sneaking around, I am trying to get some insuarnce on it for a little while, cept they want like 200 a month for the bare minimum on my truck which I think is ridiculous, as my roomate insured his 87 rx7 and only cost him 120a month. |

$200 for PL/PD? not likely, it obviously doesn't NEED full coverage
what kind of truck is it? |

Seriously, if only knew the consequences of your decision to "sneak around"...you might think twice.
$2875 is the fine for your FIRST offence...if you get caught again without insurance, it's typically around $6000...third and subsequent offences nets you about $10,000...
If you can afford the 2875 ticket, you can afford the insurance...plus, once they impound the vehicle, you don't get it back until you have proof of registration AND insurance...and if you didn't pass the OOP then good luck getting that done while it's sitting in an impound lot. |

Nicely put.
Go kick your own ass for driving around uninsured. Hopefully you don't ruin someone's life by doing it. :thefinger |

There was a thread on here previously of a person who did exactly what you're doing, driving without insurance.
He hit someone, was slapped with a $100,000+ lawsuit, and lost (Because it was his fault). Eventually he had to declare bankruptcy, and from the sounds of it, it didn't seem like an experience he'd recommend to others.
I can guarentee you that if I was hit by a uninsured driver, he'd get absolutely zero slack from an insurance company. |

| not to be the guy who smoked a pack of marlboros and downed a 40 a day that lived to 99, but i drove without insurance for 2 1/2 years over a year ago. i would never do it again and was stupid for doing it. this however was before the insurance reform (paid 350 for an 88 sentra). however, 2 of my friends were caught driving without insurance (my roommates actually). both had their cars impounded and got 3000+ dollar tickets. even with that ticket, one of the guys still pays less than i do. |

If you get stopped with out INS you will get a ticket and it will be towed. To get the vehicle out of impound you will need proof of registration and proofe if Insurance. NO Insurance company will give you insurance when they find out you were ticketed and towed for no registration and Ins. ANd you likely won't be able to afford the tow bill and impond fees if you can't afford 200 month for Ins. My suggestion park the truck and spend $40 on a Bus pass you loser. |

correct, yes...i forget to mention that they impound your vehicle when they issue the no insurance tag.
just to add, even if you drive 100% legal, you will still be pulled over once an officer sees no current tags on your license plate (i.e. indicated current registration). think it doesn't happen much? thing again...that's one of the easiest ways for an officer to justify stopping you and 100% legit.
ride a bike, walk, or take public transit. if you can't afford insurance, how can you afford gas (especially with the huge fluctuations we're seeing lately)? |

Well not that I can't afford insurance on it. I can, just not at the current moment and I got to go to work 30klicks away and no buses, which is why I was doing it. I don't see why the insurance company is trying to rape me ona 77ford f150.
Now that I see the consequences I will be attempting to get to and form work another way, not that it's easy. Also, I'm driving on backroads and crap cause it's the only way to work.
I know that I am an idiot. But at the current state I don't have much of a choice.
Thanks for straigtening me out guys. |

i was given a similar set of information by the EPS back when i was "caught" with no insurance
(i just bought the car... and was driving it home w/o plates)
and plz, no need to call me on stupidity, i was young and i paid for all of it - believe you me
but i digress. my point being, the officer who had my car towned, told me i couldnt get it out of police impound untill i had it registered/insured. Turned out that was only the case if i planned to drive it out. I foolishly ran around, trying to get all these things.... untill i found out i could just have it towed back to my place, with just proof of ownership and nothing more...
i became sort of bitter, cuz i just wanted to get my car out, and there it was, sitting there accumulating daily impound fees for nothing.
but in summary, i would have to agree that no insurance is QUITE the blow if u recieve it, not worth it -aside from very special circumstances (yet i somehow doubt you're in them) |

daily impound fees for nothing?
you clearly stated in the former part of your statement that you were driving uninsured and unregistered...that to me sounds like something. |

Accumulating daily impound fees, because he did not know that you could have it towed home. So it would not accumulate impound fee's ^.^ |
