I remember talking about this in school, just was reminded of it again today. What are your guys thoughts on it?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self_fulfilling_prophecy
Basically what it means is the way your perceive a situation and your expectations right or wrong, true or false, determines your actions (concious or subconcious).
A good example I remember was they had two teachers. One teacher was told that she was teaching a class of kids who didn't always catch on fast, and sometimes needed time to learn. The other teacher was told her students were super bright and caught on to all their lessons very fast. Both classes had the exact same types of students, average, not super bright, but not dumb. The teacher who was told that her students were very smart had a class average much higher then the teacher who was told her students were a little bit slower. This was because their expectations of the students was a large factor in how well they did.
Another example was they gave two scientists identical rats. They were given a certain amount of time to teach these rats to run a maze as fast as possible. One scientist was told his rat was genetically not as bright as the other rat. The other scientist was told his mouse was genetically better at understanding mazes and catching onto patterns. The one who was told his mouse was good at mazes, did much better at mazes and learned quicker. The one who was told his mouse was not as good at mazes and pre-dispositioned to have a lack of skill didn't do as well.
This can be applied to many different areas of life, just something kind of interesting.:blue:
Anyone have any cool examples of it in action? |

It's a really cool topic indeed.
It's kinda like how we have two sets of Civic drivers. The ones who have seen Fast and the Furious believe they have intense high speed drifting/racing/flying machines, but the ones who havent just know they have an economy car that comfortably seats 4.:) |

"I am fun to be with. Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and doggone it, people like me. Well, not everybody. But that's their problem. And your problem. Okay, I'm sorry, this is not my best show." |

Nah not psychology, just something I heard awhile ago in school to do with how you treat co-workers. If you expect people to fail and do poorly, even if you don't tell them, your subconcious behaviour shows this expectation. |
