hey my buddy is using a burnt version of windows xp and and he just got this message poping up on his computer that he may have his version of windows xp currently being used elsewhere or something like that and he can no longer get onto the internet. has anybody had this and is there anyway to get around it without buying a copy of windows xp. thanks

You're probably talking about the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation. It shouldnt stop you from totally using the internet. Typically it only affects accessing Windows Update and causes annoyances notifying you about your copy of Windows not being genuine. There are groups that are constantly cracking it, but after a short period of time Microsoft comes out with another way to counter it.

Some ppl I have heard that they just remove the WGA software from their computer, but yours might just be fargone. Hop onto a computer that has internet functioning and Google it till you find an answer, Google always has some sort of answer to offer.

if your using an illegal copy of windows and you accept the Windows Genuine Advantage "update" you are what i liked to call, fukt.
you CAN decline to install it, and windows update will kinda work...nothing else changes, but they still have you marked.

sooner or later, they are going to start cracking down really hard on people, and things like this will become more and more common.

ive always had "free" or "trial" versions of windows, but i finally broke down and bought a copy because it was getting too annoying playing the game, dodging "the man"

go talk to Evan at memory express on the south side and he will sell you a nice copy of XP home for around $100.

there's a way to remove WGA; http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=135257

there's also a way to fool Microsoft web updates website to believing it's legit, but it's rather difficult to do if you don't know what your doing and I'm not gonna explain.

do like BlueTurboEGG suggested and use :google:
