Choosing a new turbocharger - Click HERE for Original Thread

dc2696
Things have changed and I need a T3 flanged turbo now.

Details:

-looking to put down 220ish whp
-low boost threshold (w/10-14psi)
-quick response

Engine:
-1.8 dohc
-9.4 cr
-83x85mm b&s
-pressure ratio of approx 1.9 (@12spi) and 2.1 @ 14psi
-340cfm @12psi 366cfm @ 14psi

So what turbos fit this bill? Any recommendations?

ChromeDragon
I have a Z31 T3 if you're interested. It may not be quite as responsive as you might like but there aren't a whole lot of options for smaller T3s than this turbo. With your compression and displacement you should have full boost by 3,500rpm.

Disco Potato.

nismokutz
i have the disco potato and i love it. world of a difference....lol...

chris f
t3 super 60 from dodge, cheep

fatbastard
The dodge has a different flange, one of the holes is offset.

I'd go for anything thats a stage 1 .48AR turbine T3 turbo. For the most part, I'd figure most of the compressors will fit the bill.

dc2696
I was thinking a super 60 or t3/t04E, just wanted to gather some opinions.:)

Soulfly
I'm pretty sure.. a .48/.42 Would almost be perfect.. maybe something a TOUCH bigger?

:dunno:

can i be interested in that turbo as well?

BTW, a guy with a turbo accord has a compression ratio similar to the miata, but it spools up at 4500RPM usually, and its also a 2L

im sure it would be a great turbo to use, but i dont think he wants to spend 1.3k on a turbo(unless he doesnt have a spending limit)

If he doesn't.. Then get something like a GT2871.. Something Bigger than the Disco Potatoe..

It'll still spool just as quick.. But Produce WAY more power.. and keep the Intake Temperatures WAY down...

seems as if all the GT turbos are out of range for the typical entheusist. i still think something like a typical T3 out of any car should be good enough. he wants good response and about 220whp, so a small chrysler T3 should be good for that, but it would be pushing its limits though

fatbastard
I'm a big fan of getting something a little larger than you initially want, that way there is some room to grow.

Well that depends on what type/style of manifold your using and alot of other factors.

Ya I'm not looking to spend $1G on a turbo.

The plan was to use a shelby z turbo but I think I'm gonna be out of an efficient operating range, so maybe something alittle bigger.

Maybe I should add that the miata is mainly going to be lapped so long durations in boost will occur, thats why I want to go slightly larger turbo (keep temps down). I don't want to over-run a smaller turbo and have my temps going thru the roof in 10minutes.

As I recall my old K26/6 at 1 bar of boost is capable of producing 360cfm at 70% efficiency....

The turbo is oil and water cooled.

is it a regular T3 turbine inlet flange and 5bolt outlet flange?

You wish.

:D

If you like to fabricate this is the turbo for you.
