| Congrats as well! What's it like purchasing one location of a franchise? I've always thought about doing that & wonder what it's like. Must be a huge investment though. What steps did you go about to take this on? |

The best way to buy a business.........is to actually approach the owner.
...if you know how the business in question operates or know someone in the business you will have a good idea of the numbers that can be generated.
You would be surprised how many owners will sell when approached. Once someone mentions the possibility of selling ......... you would be surprised how hard it is not to.
Pay top dollar and you will buy a profitable business..

I imagine it's quite hard to resist when someone walks up to you with a briefcase filled with $500K+ and offers to buy you out :) |

GETTING STARTED:
* A Franchise Fee of $25,000 is charged at the commencement of the 10-year franchise agreement, in addition to construction costs.
* The construction cost for new Second Cup Café typically ranges between $280,000 to $320,000.
* Second Cup and financial institutions require 40% of the construction cost to be Franchise Partner equity in unencumbered cash (liquid capital, including cash, and savings, chequing or GIC accounts; RRSP’s are not eligible), the remainder can be financed.
* Second Cup does not provide any financing, but may assist in your loan application. You must secure your own financing.
I would say an existing one, with an establishing clientele in a good location would be a bit more than starting up a new one. That's just a guess, I'd have to ask my uncle for an exact cost on the used ones. |

Thats exactly how its done....... but I am waiting to be on the receiving end next time.
My only advice on purchasing a business is that the money spent upfront on buying an established clientelle is worth the $$$$.
The return on your investment is much quicker and much more predictable. It is nice having a predictable cash flow scenario when you owe the bank 500K-1 MIL...... |

Second Cups to purchase are actually starting now at around the $380 000 and up range (thats to start one from scratch) We purchased an exsiting location.
How we found out about it, my gf worked PT at one in St. Albert and the lady that works their (her parents own it) her husband was partners in the white oaks location. that is how we found out it was for sale. |
