Stock or modded 1/4 mile times - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just wondering what the average times are for the Z's. I pulled off a 13.5@103mph .8 bar of boost and catback.

vorpalz
the comprehensive 300zx drag racing site is Arnel's Z32 Racing site

He's got many different classifications of Z cars with 1/4 mile times.
Sadly, he's stopped updating it, but there is still a ton of info on times and mod combinations there.

MixManMash
ahh. I still love this picture of Greg's Car. Man does that thing want to lift off it's front wheels. One seriously mean machine.

vorpalz
video's even better:

10.19 sec. run

That's pretty good actually, for Edmonton's drag strip. Was this at friday's street legals?

Can you provide more details on what specific model of Z you have (year, transmission, etc.)? And its completely stock other than a catback?

For a collection of performance data on Z's go here (everything except for 350Zs):

What about suspension mods, tires, and what was your 60ft time on that slip?

se-i
Coilovers, rims and tires, short shifter and a 2.0 60ft

2.0 60ft is excellent on street tires (for a Z32)!!

I think the best I ever managed on my car was 2.1x's (street tires).

Are you going to represent at SCC on saturday? If not, try to come by Sherwood Nissan and check out our show n' shine.

My best ET was 12.9, with drag radials (13.3 on street tires, previously). Traps were 108-109mph. That was a while ago. I haven't been out to the drag strip in 2 years.
(I'd certainly like to go back sometime as I've slowly fixed a few issues with my car over the last couple years and would like to re-test it. I know its still got more in it BEFORE I'll need to go to bigger turbos and engine work).

The Z Club doesn't have a list. Only a small handful of club members have ran, that I'm aware of. Bill W. ran ~ 13.5 in his 90TT a few years ago, John O. ran his V8 240Z (high-14s to 15 I think), Shawn (780 "Jackal") ran his Z31 Turbo...although I don't remember his best times, low-15s or so? That's all I can think off the top of my head, plus a couple of Z32 guys from Calgary (Dan "DConz" and Shawn "Z Fan").

Dan, Shawn and I all ran a best of ~12.9 on stock turbos, stock engine, with roughly the same setups. And I'm not aware of anyone else in the province beating that yet (in recent years anyway). And of course since then Shawn (Z Fan) is no longer on stock turbo/engine setup and has gone a long way to smashing any previous Z records in the province, even for modified Z32s.

But anyway, you're certainly off to a good start.

What mods do you have? I'm not trying to break any records but would like to be in the 12's

Your basic Stage 5-6:
intake, catback, ECU, downpipes & testpipes, pulley, boost controller and bigger intercoolers.

Inzane
I just thought of another data point from our club. A few years ago Sam Brocolli (former member) ran a best ~13.7 in his Stage 3 TT I think.

Yes, especially if you really are "stock" other than a catback. You should investigate whether you have an aftermarket intake, and ECU as well. Cats still in place?

You never know. :dunno:

BTW how is it you are running more than stock boost anyway? (You said .8 bar which is a tad under 12 psi). Stock boost is 9-9.5 psi, so are you using a boost controller? Or boost jets (w/ ecu upgrade)? Or... what?

Boost controller I took the front peice off beetween the headlights and its still got stock dirty airfilters so know intake. .8 bar or 12 psi is the lowest setting for my boost controller. I'm gonna go out on a lim and say that yes I have the cats because the car isnt very loud at all. Im gonna get it on the dyno and see how it reacts to 1bar 14.x psi of boost I'm also going to try and get down pipes I know someone that says some sitting in his garage. Do you know anybody local that has parts in stock ecu, pop charger?

Uh no, I wouldn't! Check your ecu first. 14psi is absolutely not a good idea on a stock ecu. 14psi is barely ok on a JWT ecu on pump gas (91 octane). 14psi on a stock ecu and you're definitely living dangerously.

Generally speaking 11psi is considered the MAXIMUM safe boost to run on a stock ecu (0.8 bar = 11.6 psi). There might be a slight variance in allowable if you have a JDM ecu (I don't know specifically how they're tuned from the factory).

That's really ambitious to try and get downpipes installed before saturday. Downpipes are great and you'll love 'em, but they are a tough install.

Generally no. Unless you find another local Z owner that's swapped from one kind to another (eg. JWT to Ashspec, or vice versa) and has one for sale. There are no local shops that stock aftermarket Z32 performance parts.

se-i
Thanks mabey I will stick with the .8 bar. I dont think I will be on pump gas for SCC even at .8 bar. If I can get the down pipes I will try and install them before SCC, I doubt it though I'm still trying to get the wifes skyline ready.

AFAIK JDM Z's don't run pre-cats like North American Z's, you should already have a factory downpipe. I don't think you'll gain much unless you're switching to a split-design pipe.

Regards,

Inzane
Good catch Rob.

Not to mention the bottom flange location wouldn't match up. So in order to add downpipes to a JDM, if I recall correctly you'd probably have to swap out the main cats as well (for high-flow cats or testpipes).
