| alright...well I got into my first accident today  ...I took a turn to hard in a '05 stang and as a result ended up fish tailing and spinning out into the left side of an oncoming SUV. :dunno: well my question is I was issued a "Careless Driving" ticket by the police officer and wanted to know how many demerits is a ticket of this sort, and also seeing as this is my first accident and my first ticket...should I try to fight the ticket by maybe using that pointts place? |

You hit oncoming traffic? That's pretty serious man. You're lucky you only hit the side and not head-on.
Demerit point schedule. http://www.infratrans.gov.ab.ca/INF...n/dhpage147.htm
Careless driving is 6 points. Try POINTTS if you want, might help, maybe not. You'll notice a lot of people in these threads will say something like "hope you learned your lesson." That's your best bet.
Here's what I mean. Fines and punishments aren't meant as punishment per se, but as a deterrent. IF you do violation A, you pay fine B, so don't do it. First offence, regardless of anything else (I'd avoid excuses unless you have really good, valid reasons), if you can make the magistrate/judge feel like you've learned a valuable lesson and will never do it again, you'll be treated more leniently.
If you make up dumb excuses, "I was really tired, my girlfriend's mad at me, and I just wanted to see what the car could do", it probably won't help you much. POINTTS will generall show up early, chat it up with the officers and prosecutors and try and cut you a break before court starts. They often have friends in the system so that helps. But if it's a new prosecutor or a cop they have no connection too, it's a crap shoot, and you could probably do just as well yourself. |

very solid advice..with this ticket i would definatly get someone from points to help you out.. you dont want this on your record. if your record is clean other then this, you have a good shot at a reduction. it will be expensive but your alternative will be worse. |
