| I just got a pathfinder SE. on the awd shifter console the order of modes goes 4H-N-4L-2L now the truck is currently in N. i can push the lever down and it will ease down right into 4H. However, if i put it back into neutral, push down and try to push up nothing happens. I cant seem to get it to go into 4L or 2L. no matter how hard i push it just wont go up. What can possibly be wrong? |

| try it at a very slow roll. if it still does not work there is likely something wrong with the transfer case or shift linkage (if there is any) |

You have a 2 Low setting?
ok...
Before trying to get into 4 low shift out of Drive/1st into Neutral, and have the truck slowly rolling. Then shift the tranny into 4low. |

| how clean is your under carriage, i have seen a million people complain about their 4*4 not working and i get under the vehicle to find that the linkage for the transfer case if full of shit. I'd check it out. If your not sure what linkage to clean have a buddy move the lever untill you see which one is moving and clean it! |

Pro Tech might be cheaper, and they would be just as qualified, if not more qualified. |

| any info on pro tech? the thing is i already took a few days off this week to look for a new vehicle and my boss wont give me more time to take it in to get looked at so it would be good to get it into a place thats open on saturdays. its not leaking like crazy its just got wet spot and a drip. its not actually dripping but its forming the drop very slowly if u know what i mean. but i just got it and i would like to get it fixed since i have some cash now and probably wont later. |

Before you go spend bigs bucks at a dealership to tell you its F*(Ked, go buy a can of brake clean and clean off the entire underside of transfer case and tranny, Only this way you'll tell if it is leaking. and where from. May be residue from fluid change. Nissans are pretty solid. As for shifting you need to bu in N gear and don't roll slowly forward, You'll grind the trnsfercase gears like crazy. Read your owners manual it will tell you exactly how to shift it properly.

What? every 4x4 I've own the manual has said if it won't go in while stopped don't force it and try is while rolling slowly.
Sheesh, I've gone from 4lo to 4hi while rolling and in gear(5spd) with the clutch pushed without problems... autos, yeah, from 4lo to 4 hi needs to be in N, 4 lo to 2hi, I'm done while driving... 2Hi to 4hi, depends on the vehicle... if the front diff is always spinning you can do it while rolling(shift ont he fly) where as if the front diff unlocks, then you's need to stop. |

Your right domestic 4x4's do shift that way as most are manual engagement. Imports are often electronicly controlled front wheel diff lock. Again like i said in closing Read the Owners manual. Every vehicle is different.
My 4 Runner is completly different then both my fords , My 06 Ford is different than my 97 ford. So If the Owners manual tells you to do it that way then do it that way.
Cheers:D |

it wont budge no matter what i do.. ive tried at a complete stop..auto tran in N and going from N on the 4wd you push in and up and nothing happens no matter how much force..i get the same result when the truck is moving. however it will go in and down to 4H like butter. the transmission is completely clean of oil, its only at the bottom that there is a small twoonie size collection of tranny fluid and it forms a small drip..
i have an appt booked for this weekend at a transmission shop, ill see what they tell me. |

Pro Tech is a great shop that's honest. I've had family take cars there, when I didn't want to work on them, and never had a complaint.
Perhaps you could just find a place that'll shuttle you back to work? If you find a place that's close to where you work, it shouldn't be a problem. Hell, Bert's offered to shuttle me when I wanted just an alignment done. |

| i tried to look up pro tech in the phone book and it wasnt in there. (yellow pages) im gunna try this transmission shop first, they give free estimates so atleast ill know whats wrong.. it may just need a new gasket, and since i just got it, it may not be so bad to flush the fluid out anyway. |

our work trucks 02 chev 1/2 tons need to be in park before you can switch from 4hi to 4low :dunno: |

| ok because im a noob, my brother looked at the truck today and he said it was the differential that was leaking not my transmission so this looks to be just a 4wd problem not a tran problem. |
