Hey guys ok so i am in a tough senario guys my engine is super bad and about to go leaks oil and ticks. So i have come up with 2 things to do here are pros and cons on what to do.
Rebuild my motor. My dad said he would pay half to this and wat ever i do. So i would rebuild my motor and put a bunch of performance parts on it to get it going fast and get it ready for turbo end of next summer. Havnt looked into only have max 5000 grand to spend. i got a b21a1 2.1L in there
Or
Drop an H22a1 in there which dad does not approve of anymore and would take fabercation and dad wont pay half. but i could get good power and it is a brand new motor and tranny and could be nicer. Looked into this fully and now all about it so ya i now wat i getting into.
What would you guys do and think i should do?
Thank you
Jason |

| you should be reasonable. do you really want to spend that kind of money. it comes down to this, if you had 10 grand would that be the car you choose to buy? because you have to remember when you dont want that car anymore, you wont get ANY of your money back out of that car.. it will still sell for maybe 3 grand if ur lucky. in my opinion if i had 5 gs to blow on an engine, then id maybe rebuild and put that money away. |

| the best thing for you to do is save, until you can afford the car you really want. it doesnt pay off to buy a cheap car and trade up slowly and slowly you lose alot more money that way. drive what you got until you have enough money to buy whatever you want without putting yourself deep in debt. because when you get to be my age youll regret it, when you realise buying a house is a lot more important then a car. but when your older if youve managed ur money you can have both. |

| exactly so if ur dad is going to help pay to fix it, go that route. save ur money until you have something you want to spend it on... if the h22 is your dream or goal or whatever, then i would suggest you go that route. |

That's the best advice I've ever heard on a car forum. Get it "good enough" and save until you can go for your dream. Even if that dream is a complete peice of crap 1981 Jetta. No offence to 81 Jetta's, but that was my buddies dream and he bought the biggest POS Jetta I've ever seen and spent a fortune getting it just the way he wanted it. I think it's hideous, but he loves it, it was his dream, and he saved and made it happen, and I never see him without a big grin on his face whenever he looks at it. |

| Honestly, screw rebuilding the motor. Go the cheaper way, go to a junkyard, and pick up a lower mileage motor from the junkers, swap that in, and be happy with a car that will get you around. Then save your cash. |

You can rebuild you engine, but your not going to see god numbers out of it. Theres only so much you can do with it. In all honesty I would swap something in. Maybe a B16. Wouldnt be as big of a bitch as an H22. An H22 in that car would be sweet, and those were my plans for building a budgeted drag car, but its a lot of hastle, and not worth it if you have to pay a shop to do it.
You can rebuild yours, but im not even sure what performance parts you could get for it, and Im not sure how strong your tranny is either.
How long do you plan to keep the car for? If its a long time a rebuild isnt going to keep you happy. you'll get bored with it, and want more power, and you'll probably do a swap sooner or later. |
