place to socket ecu with EPROM - Click HERE for Original Thread

superspeed
^as topic stated any places in *edmonton* that will do it? or do you recommend a place that you have experienced with?

MixManMash
Can't recommend a place that can / will do it. Most electronic repair shops should be able to do it.

The hardest part of socketing the ECU is getting the EEPROM chip off the PCB. The back of the EEPROM is glued right on to the PCB.

I do it to honda ecu's constantly, the older obd0 have a current rom chip onboard u have to desolder and pull off the board and it is glued on as well. It is quite tricky but if its jsut a mtter of removing the chip and putting a new one in or a socket i could easily do it for you for a small fee.

MixManMash
yup. tricky. just make sure you don't peel off the lines on the PCB. This happened to me. Just had to solder on some other wires externally to complete the lines.

i dont belive mine is like that. u have to socket it.

MixManMash
Yes, but in order to socket it, you have to pull out the original EEPROM. Trust me, I did it to mine. The only reason that I had to run some external wires was because I pulled some traces off the PCB in the process of trying to get my EEPROM off the PCB.

Ayeso
Yeah thats hows it done, u desolder the pins on the current rom, remove the chip without pulling up the trace, best way i found is heat the rom up slightly so it heats the glue on the board and then just peels off nicely. slap ur dip and or zif in and away you go.

so doable?
