AEM cold air in winter? - Click HERE for Original Thread

jojodeci
well i have aem and i was just wondering if it's ok to drive with it on in winter!

I dont have the stock intake box and for my car its hard to find parts

The cold air is right by my wheel well just wondering if it's ok to leave it on during winter?

No problems with mine on my daily driven B15. Just make sure you have the inner fender liner in place to protect the filter from splashes and debris.

Thegnome
It would probably be better to have it in the engine bay, but your intake manifold and throttle body more than likely runs hot coolant through them for the colder weather to maintain a proper air temp. So you should be ok.

Make it into a SHORT RAM. Best bet for winter!

Just leave it alone.. Also.. Make sure that it can't suck up water, or be damaged...

as Thegnome said, the only thing it will effect is Idle.. and EVEN then.. Your enginebay will be cold aswell, so.. Just leave it on.. :p

alright sounds good

just heard that having cold air when its wet can damage your engine and just did a really exspensive swap lol

dont want it pooched again

RWD
u dont have to worry about the snow.. but when it melts...

AEM makes 2 things for protection. They make a "sock" to go over the filter to let air in but keep debris out.

Water still might get in, but AEM also made a thing called a "By-pass filter". As soon as it detects a drop in air flow (water being sucked up) it vents out to the atmosphere until it sees the normal air flow again. Might want to look into one or the other. Or both.

whats easier to suck up water or air....

unless to completely submerse your filter at wot you'll be fine...

i know i've dragged mine through some puddles..:dunno:

when you suck up water.. You get Higher Compression!! MORE POWAAH!!!

It's true though.. you do!

I was driving with my AEM in the neon in St Albert behind cars going throught some really big puddles, not deep but big...

The tone of my engine changed,, freaked me out, sucked up some water I think, ust enough for water injection type of deal, she sounded sooo mean heh

I had my AEM on all winter no prob, I even ran for 3 mo with a straight exposed filter on a diff car(front bumper shattered when I hit a guy that made a right turn from the left lane when I was right beside him.
