Check the speedo cable, make sure it's connected tightly.

VSS on the tranny. ( vehicle speed sensor ). It used to happen on my H22 swap occasionally and it was a bad VSS.

you might even get lucky and it is just a broken wire on the vss. Check all three wires for continuity before you replace the vss....they aren't cheap.

where do i check for thw wires? what do i take out to get to the wire

lovinthespeed
mine does it right now but mine only stops till i stop the car hit on the dash and it goes again so i would say a cable is loose or the wire is frizzing

speedo itself could be done if it's elecrtonic. my EK civic was like that, and eventually it just stopped working alltogether. intermittent faults are the absolute worst problems. all you'd be able to do is try replacing one part at a time till the problem is gone, start with the easiest(VSS)

W/ my Cherokee, it was the cable being stretched, so it would sometimes read the speed and sometimes not. So check that too.
