vr6t sets new FWD record - Click HERE for Original Thread

vr6T
The Subracing sponsored VW Rabbit set a new record today. After having to leave early last night from street legals, I decided to go to the bracket races today (22 degrees, 4100 DA rumor had it) to get a few passes in. An 8 second car broke and shut the track down for 1 1/2 hours, but I managed to get 2 passes in. The first pass I had to let off at about 1100 ft., and the 2nd pass I had to let off in 3rd to straighten the car out, so I still haven't done a clean pass in the car yet.

first pass:
11.02@127.52mph
2nd pass:
11.14@133mph

The car was heading for a mid 10 second run on the first pass, but that's how things go sometimes....

I'll see if I can get the slips scanned later.

Is this the same James who drove truck?
He has/had a vr6 then s/c I believe. He had MHT wheels a long time ago.

vr6T
yeah, that's me.... who's this?

seevik
wow, amazing, do you mind sharing a few main engine specs and parts

vr6T
3.0L VR6. 17psi low boost (through 2nd gear), 23psi (3rd-4th gears) turbocharged. Built head, custom intake, standalone, huge injectors etc.

24.5X8X13 MT ET Drags.

it put out 468whp uncorrected at 19.5psi on a mustang dyno.

Next time out I'm going to increase the low boost. The car will run much faster once I get the 1/8th mile time quicker. Maybe (20psi 1-2) and 23psi (3-4).

I'm not having any traction issues in 2nd gear, the car is biting in hard, and it will benefit from more boost in that gear. I reached my goal I had set for this year of 11.3@130-132mph. So I will now set a new goal of 10.5@135-137mph. I've also still been launching light, and granny shifting the car because the stock tranny doesn't like high rpm shifts. For next year I'll put a new gearset in and the car should shift much better. I'm also only building 2 psi on my stutterbox right now because I'm afraid of my driveshafts breaking. because the turbo isn't spooling on the line, I'm only getting about 8psi in first gear. If I built some boost on the line, I could run much more boost in 1st gear. If I take it out with a trailer one day, I'll try a 8-10psi launch, and see what happens, but I've been driving it to and from the track. I only have about 12 passes on the car, and have a lot to learn. It's getting faster each time out. I'm sure by the time I have 100 passes on it, it will be running much faster....

Congrat's on the nice times. I put all of your success on the wastegate spring you got from me.:p

vr6T
haha,

If the truth be known. The only thing I changed from last night to today was taking your spring back out. The spring was getting too higher over it's pressure, and the boost controller didn't want to build boost high enough, and was very unstable. I gained 5mph, and .6 seconds by taking that spring back out and putting mine back in :D

LOL

DSM
Well glad to hear that you got the set up working and you were able to get traction on the higher boost levels.

nice...damn i wish i was in edmonton to see it..

Wow nice times James congrats looks like all the hard work is paying off now.

bigmack000
haha nice to see the car that almost ranme over while it was onthe dyno is ripping it up !

Savage
video? that's awsome so does this beat the srt-4? well congratulations can't wait 'till next season.

vr6T
The car is currently #1 on the import list, so I guess it beats "the srt-4" ;)

I'm really excited for next year. I have a strong feeling we'll see 1 or more 9 second import/sport compacts.

Coconut84
congrats dude! i'm just wondering how much time, effort, mods and money it took you to make your car run that fast?

vr6T
very little of any of the above

ANY car capable of trapping 140+mph in the 1/4 mile took a lot of time/effort/mods/money to build ;)

Praylewd powr
what fuel are you running at those boost levels?
