In Britain, less than 5% of crashes are caused by speeders. - Click HERE for Original Thread

Why does this statistic not surprise me? Actually, I'm quite certain that the amount of accidents caused by speeders here is even lower, because in the UK the photoradar is at fixed locations, so they have far less incentive to drive the speed limit because they know exactly where all the cameras are and can just slow down when they pass by them.

How big of a factor do you guys think people doing drugs while or before driving would be. I knew lots of guys in high school that would drive around smokin up. I don't care if you do drugs, but do you really have to do it while your behind the wheel?

I know lots of pplthat smoke dope and drive, honestly I can't say that I think they are that much of a hazard, unless ur a rookie and your tripping out lol then it'd b a problem for sure.

Personally I think being stoned and driving is just as bad as drinking and driving. Say what you want, but either way its a huge distraction.

Also being in the mountains doesn't mean you can drink and operate motor vehicles. My friends good buddy died a couple months ago on a ATV with the same mindset. Went over a 50 foot cliff at 60mph (missed a corner) with a passenger on the back, his buddy on the back of the quad had his head crushed on rocks and trees below and the driver was put in intensive car in serious condition (they were both wearing helmets, as if it matters when you go over a cliff like that). Now he has to live with the fact that he killed his best friend for the rest of his life. You really have to think about it, is it really worth it??? BTW it wasn't a freak accident as they had ridden in the same area many times before and frequented those trails.

I have to agree. the only time anybody i know says they ever have trouble driving when they are high is after a mad bong sess. Smoking a bowl or a joint seems to make everyone i know so much more cautious and careful while they drive, infact they will never speed. Same with me if im baked and driving no way in hell will i speed. however drinking and driving is horrible and i never do it and would never incourage it at all in any case

This thread was started with facts saying speeders aren't causing many accidents, and you are talking about driving slow.

There seems to be a severe lack of detail to the article, not to mention that the most viable study they mention lists people driving "too fast for conditions", which doesn't mean much. If the roads are clean and dry, what's too fast for conditions? That doesn't mean people aren't speeding, they might be, but it would be reasonable for those conditions? Makes no sense.

THere have been many studies. People who drive faster are often more attentive, unless they're racing and focusing on the other guy. But people who are slightly over may very well be less likely to be in an accident......but when the are the damage is higher and there's a greater risk of a fatality, and that's the issue with speeding.

Do camera's reduce that? Not if they're fixed and we know where they are. But then, I don't think we'll ever get rid of speeders, so I don't see cameras changing much anyways.

As for people who are high and drive, yes, they can be dangerous. The worst part is, any accident they cause will likely be one where they aren't assessed "at fault", even though they might be the cause.

Driving slower and more cautious isn't safer if it's excessive. Yesterday I was stuck behind a lady going 30 who stopped at every intersection whether she had a stop sign or not. The road was narrow so passing was unlikely, and everytime she stopped someone tried to pass nearly causing several accidents. At one point she stopped in a yield for no reason for at least 10 seconds, cars went around the yield and made a turn, it was a mess and was extremely dangerous. When she started to go, I shoulder checked and went, and when I looked back, she had stopped again and I was inches from rear-ending her.

The fact is, any substance which changes your frame of mind is dangerous. ANY substance. If you shouldn't take extra strength tylenol and drive, what makes you think taking pot and driving is ok?

The most dangerous thing to be while driving is tired. Next comes drunk. After that comes high (unless we're talking hallucinations and shit, then it jumps higher up the list). While it may not be as dangerous as other things, that doesn't mean you should do it.

Besides, the law doesn't care how you're impaired. In fact, the vehicle doesn't even have to be moving, and being on ANY drug is enough to warrant the charge.
