what a little cutie!!! what happened with your other dog Aaron?

Inzane
Congrats on the new family member!

My neighbours have a Jack Russel and she's about 4 years old now and still wound up like a spring, she can almost clear our fence when she jumps. They're a very hyper breed. But extremely friendly.

Lobo had to get put down, he got hip displacia. 9yrs old sheppard.

RacerGirl
I'm so sorry to hear that. :( he was such a nice dog

where did you get a puppy 6 weeks old? Most reputable breeders leave the litter together for at least 7. My dog trainer specifically said this due to the development of bite inhibition. Not crashing your party, just curious.

Cute dog btw!

Jack Russel? Man...that IS a hyper dog. They have built in energizer batteries for the next 15 years...be prepared.

Cute dog!

We got ours at 5 and a half weeks, he was completely weened and eating solid food and water.

He mouths when he plays, like he'll get a grip, but not hurt and then back off and lick.

but on topic S2K, have fun, but it's not like your new to dog so ya know what to expect.

Sweet dog  Your first mod should be a collar.

Here is a tip for the sleep deprived puppy owners that has worked for me in the past. Assuming your pup is kept in a kennel at night, they will whine and make a ruckus because they are lonely and anxious. Take the kennel into your bedroom and put it on the floor near the head of your bed.

When he whines and makes noise, stick your fingers through the front cage on the kennel so he can lick them and know you are close by. This is part of the bonding between you and the dog and it is reassuring to the pup that it is not alone, plus you don't have to listen to him making noise in another part of the house all night. Don't let him out of the kennel, just let him lick your fingers for a little bit and leave him where he is. You should have the pup sleeping through the night in his kennel in a few days.

My dog sleeps in his kennel during the day when we're gone, and sleeps with us at night. During the day he only whines for a couple minutes, if at all.

When my parents puppy sit over night he sleeps in his kennel and as long as he can see the bed he's fine, if he can see the people in the bed he's fine.

When he was a little puppy we did kennel him every night and it was the same way, as long as he could see us, even if he had to stand up he was ok. Same thign with when he broke his leg.

yup, that will do the trick. Dogs are pack animals so a new puppy needs to be part of the group, especially at night. Also a trick that worked on our choc labrador (though some trainers say otherwise). Keep a towel over the kennel and when he whines, gently rock the kennel....not a hit.....just gentle movement. The puppy will learn that his "world will move" when whining. It really does work and does not negatively affect behavior.

I just finished a really good puppy kindergarten class (for 8-16 week old puppies only).....PM me if you want the info.

Great instructor!

well its a long story, but here goes..

Well, recently realized that the puppy wasnt responding to noises at all, so it got me suspicious and I brought it to the vet.

They did some tests and found out that he was deaf.

I did alot of research on deaf dogs and found out they require alot of extra attention and training, and are more aggresive by nature. Not knowing pain levels, easily scared/startled etc.

So, I returned the puppy to the kennel where we got him adn talked to the owners. They told me they would refund my money and would take care of the puppy at their house.

I feel like an asshole for doing it, but I wouldnt be able to take care of a dog who wouldnt come when i called it, or understands "no" when its biting etc.

My "wife" is devestated, and I feel horrible like I gave my child away. But also, thinking its the best thing for it to be around other dogs, etc.

So, im going to delete the pics cause they're hard to look at now.

Very sorry to hear about that. A friend of mine went through the same thing and it is very difficult to care for a deaf dog. Very, very hard to train.....you did the right thing. Hopefully you are able to bring yourself to get another dog soon.

good luck.

Sorry to hear that, I would you find a new one soon.
Best of luck

REFLUX
aww man taht's terrible to hear Aaron :(
I had to give back my first puppy after a few days too, it can be tough but you did the right thing.

Taking care of a special needs dog can be a lot more than an owner bargains for, so if you tried to "tough it out"....both you & the dog would prbly end up being unhappy.

take it easy man

Bad Egg
Sorry to hear that, but a lot of us dog owners have had to make the tough choices like that as well, and we know how hard it is. Try returning a dog when you have little kids, it's not pretty. I am glad we ended up with a good dog for our family, and hope you guys find one that is right for you too.

Soulfly
I'm sure you did the Right thing.. and the better thing..

It would be better to have it around other dogs...
